Found this jewel thread when I did a search on TS for 'Sheepsaver'. :

I want to be able to run Canvas 3.5.x on my 2010 Intel iMac. I have some of the requisite pieces, but not all:

I am in the process of downloading SheepSaverPackage.zip now. It has 2hours 44min to go. :snore:

However, I can not find any of my OS 9 CDs. I haven't turned my apartment upside down yet. But I think they might be gone.

Anybody have an OS 9 CD they could dupe and send me? Please! Pretty please. With sugar on it.

I'll send money for postage, and then some.

And complete instructions on setting it up.

I still have my G4 2002 Quicksilver 933MHz with OS 9 on it and OS X 10.4.11.

You can have that after I set up to run Canvas on my iMac.

Canvas is the only reason I'm keeping it around.

BTW, I also have a 21" Viewsonic HDMI monitor that could come with the QS with a little negotiation.

6:20PM Edited to add: DL Sheepsaver finally ended 2hrs50minutes to complete - 571MB. Most of the time @ 40-90 KB/sec.  WOW.gif

This is still a work-in-progress.

I have visited the following sites and found a lot of good information on Sheepsaver:

When I opened it up, it had detailed info and files on setting up Sheepsaver.

Finally got Sheepsaver up and running

Canvas works exactly like it should

HOWEVER, I can't see my HP LaserJet 1320 in the Chooser and can't create a PDF file

And when I try to print, it gives me an error, either to the printer, or save as PDF.

I have re-installed HP drivers and PPDs to no avail

Even re-installed some USB stuff to no avail

Just can't seem to recognize printer hooked up to USB port

If I can't resolve this, it will be a deal killer since I have to create a PDF file for use on OS X, or print directly from OS-9

Good luck, Jack.

I got SheepsHaver a couple of years ago, so My Beloved would be able to run her treasured WordPerfect for the Mac ~ orphaned, abandoned, discarded by Corel poaaibly 10 years ago. I wanted to get her something newer than her aging G5 (mit Classic) to do all her many projects.

I needed the help of a certified Mac Guru (of my acquaintance) who came to the house and spent a couple of hours + a nice lunch, then the recipient of these comprehensive efforts balked (everyone who's married will recognize that response).

So The Project died on the vine.

Congratulations on even being to understand how to get an OS9 emulator to work on an Intel/OS X Mac. I got in over my head so fast I couldn't believe it.

I do remember reading several blogs, however, that gave it decent reviews.

Well, I too scrubbed the project. No print or save, no go.

Deleted SheepShaver, but put the whole kitten-caboodle on a DVD in case I have another hair brained idea. flail.gif

Well, at least it was a good learning experience.

Jack, I used Canvas back in the late 90's maybe early 00's (hard to remember, exactly). Anyway, I was so happy to find Pages back when it first appeared, it was much more intuitive, didn't crash, etc. Now that's it's only $20 I don't see any point in trying to keep Canvas running. Frankly, I'm surprised it's still being offered for sale. dntknw.gif I still remember creating multi-page, half-sized booklets with Canvas trying to get the text to "bleed/flow' from one page to the next section and keep the page numbers accurate. Ended up making a paper 'model' so I could figure it out!!! blush-anim-cl.gif

I doubt that Pages can read old Canvas files and maintain the formatting/layout/etc. but Pages is a very capable little app and well worth the original $75 for the whole iWork suite.

Of course, the biggest drawback in most of the Mac App Store method is that there is no "try-before-you-buy' option. sad.gif OTOH, $20 is a lots less to lose than several hundred fro other page layout apps.

BTW, Pages has two basic 'modes'; "Word processing" and "Page Layout." I tend to use the blank page "Page Layout" mode more than anything else since it offers a completely blank 'canvas' on which anything can be done; text where you want it, images, graphics, masks, etc. OTOH, I know some who start with a WP sample and modify as needed. You might message Richard, I know he uses Pages for a monthly newsletter. And there are several web sites with lots of help and suggestions. BTW, be sure to mention my name, should you purchase Pages, I get a 3.5% commission! laughhard.gif

The things I liked about Canvas 3.5 was the ability to create several layers, and hide/unhide a given layer.

It had all the shapes I needed, along with a host of other features. Lean and mean!

I used it to annotate map scans, and a host of other projects.

Then, Deneba came out with V4 etc, and totally destroyed it's usability for my projects. Bloated, slow and all those negatives. Phooooie !!!

I don't particularly like Pages. It does not have all the features that Canvas had. FWIW

Of course, not! But for the difference in price, I can take far fewer crashes and problems, also! thumbup.gif

Like FileMaker, the only "layers" are only on a simple sheet; "Move backward/forward" or "Move to back/front." But there are opacity controls for most, if not all objects, also. Like most different apps that do similar things, it takes some experimenting, "playing" and web questioning to see how it's done in the different app. We often learn some new tricks by doing that, also. But it's just a suggestion, I'm sure there are other page layout options out there. wink.gif And, speaking of FM, I have even used that for page layout!!! laughhard.gif wacko.gif

Here's another ENTHUSIASTIC "owner/operator" of Pages.

An example is the quarterly newsletter (8 pgs on 11 x 17 stock) of the Friends of the Millbrae Library. We won a recognition from the American Library Association in 2010 . . .Friend's News (Autumn 2011 issue)

I started doing this with FullWrite, then AppleWorks almost 20 years ago. With the advent of Pages, some initial coaching by ABD, and several One-to-One sessions at the local Apple Store, I put years and years of frustration (and near-failure) behind me to get the product you see in the link.
