I don't own an iPad at the moment - or a Kindle, but do occasionally read the news about them. One of these days I may get one, but haven't yet found a compelling reason to do so other than they're cool. I have a Macbook Pro that lives in the living room and does pretty much everything the iPad would do at home, and a whole lot more when I'm on the road, so an iPad is hard to justify. eReaders are an interesting concept for traveling, though I often go where reading on an ocean beach is guaranteed. Not so good for that, as sand and salt water are not friendly to electronics!

Does Preview count as an "eReader?" I have many PDF books, most of them purchased. But if you're talking about portable readers only, all I have is iBooks on the iPhone with nothing but a rental management invoice in it (how it got there I have no idea). And that ten line document is a little short of interesting plot line and character development... I'm not even sure that app actually presents eBooks for reading, although I assume it does. dntknw.gif

So, once again, the choices in the survey are too limiting for my situation. I need one that says,"I don't know what I have but I don't mind having the subject as a thread. I might actually learn something!" laughhard.gif

Ditto what Xabd said.

Don't have an eReader, and don't intend to get one.

Have too many good books in my apartment that I haven't gotten around to. Plus a bunch of magazines.

Where would you put the posts?

That might be a tough choice, unless a third category were added specifically for eReader Tech AND Community.

Just a thought. It would avoid cluttering up the two current.

I just posted a new thread about the Fire. Does that count as an eReader, even though that's not it's main purpose? I think it might be more difficult to decide what might go into a "section" about eReaders than the actual posting/maintaining one.
    Would "news" about them be limited to devices solely designed solely for reading?
    Could any device capable to displaying an electronic 'book' be included?
    Info on technology certainly would belong on the "Tech" side.
    What about the variety of "books" for a device? Community?
    Reviews about the books...Community? Those would really be subjective and very non-technical. dntknw.gif
    Book of the Month section? Favorite "books?"
    Tips/tricks for different devices...Technical!
    Favorite places to use them?! eek2.gif laughhard.gif

I say, "More power to you!" But don't complain about the work involved!!! smile.gif Maybe just post on whichever side your topic seems to fit and let the followers (or not) reply as they desire. Unless there is becoming a problem with storage space for TS as a whole... dntknw.gif

Okay, rather than try to accommodate all the variations, I removed the poll. It's easier that way. wink.gif

eReaders are techy things, so I'd post the occasional thread here in the tech forum. I'm not looking to start another forum and make this place harder to navigate.

I only asked because some topics folks flat out aren't interested in, and I don't see the point of taking the time to share the news. If folks are interested, I don't mind starting threads. Matters not if anyone responds. I just don't want to post stuff that irks everyone because they hate the whole subject.

My iPad(1) is my e-reader.  
I have iBooks, Kindle, and Overdrive by Adobe apps on it, so I can borrow books from our local library in whatever form they reside there. I can, of course, also buy e-books from iTunes.
I very much like the ease of any of these apps, although, I do fine the Kindle app a good bit less than user friendly, as you need to go to the Amazon site and "manage your Kindle" in order to return a book to the library before it 'expires'.  I think that many others find this the same as books are 'very slow' to be returned and I assume that folks are just letting the app return the book after 21 days rather than mess around with the other hassle (just my opinion).

I do very much like the iPad form factor, the ease of reading on it, and being able to have music piped to my hearing aids via bluetooth while I read.
