burning cd's
« on: June 27, 2003, 07:06:07 PM »
Hello,  I need some help.  I use Lime Wire to download my music then I put it on ITunes and burn the cd's.  I really have a couple of problems.  I have downloaded the new Lime Wire, any ways when ever I go to my shared folder it doesn't show my completed song I just down loaded.  So I have gone to Sherlock and I can find the song that way.  It takes me to the folder that I can't see it in without Sherlock.  The other problem is on ITunes on some of my songs there is and (!) beside them.  I have no idea what that means, but when I go to play it, a window pops up and says "could not be used because the original file can not be found."  I go to find it and can't.  Do these two problems go together?  Please help wacko.gif

welcome.gif Half Pint!

I think these two problems go hand in hand.  I am going to assume you are using OS X.  Make sure your songs are actually set up to download into your SHARED folder.  In LimeWire, go to your preferences panel and click on SAVING.  Next to directory, click on browse and work your way to your /Users/yourusername/Shared folder.  You can also specify any other place you want to save it.  Maybe just save it to your desktop, once downloaded click and drag it to your iTunes library (this copies it into your iTunes music folder).  Then you can delete it from your desktop.

The ! next to your song means iTunes has no idea where the file is located.  Its probably doing that because you can't even find the file.  Hope this helps...

Just a word of advice...  Maybe start purchasing and downloading music from Apple instead of LimeWire.  The recording industry is starting to monitor IP addresses and going after people who are downloading illegally through Kazaa, imesh and limewire. police.gif    The chances of them picking you out of the millions of people who are downloading is slim, however.........

It's not working.  I still have to go to sherlock and find the file.  It's like it's invisible.  In sherlock it shows it on the desktop. At leat it is playing the file in iTunes just fine.

 WHICH Desktop?

In OS X, there are many Desktops. Each user has a Desktop, and in addition to that, there is also an OS 9 Desktop, which you can only see if you click on the alias called "Desktop (OS 9) on your hard drive.

You should be able to tell limeWire where you want to download the files to.
