C|Net is asking end users for their experiences with overheating on the new iPads:

I don't know how they could've had time to overheat yet; but there you go!  Don't listen to Mike Daisey if he has an overheating problem; it might just be his imagination!

Later, 10 degree's hotter apparently:

It was however kind of like ganging up on the new iPad to drop it onto a stone walkway as these guys did:

Don't drop your iPad no matter what!  We have a gal that has 4 stick-on corners on her iPad 2 so it has a little more padding!

I plan on wrapping one, if I ever get one, in several layers of bubble wrap, maybe with large rubber bumpers on each corner. It will probably be more difficult to use but the resale value should make up for the inconvenience! Maybe also a short tether around my neck to prevent the iPad from reaching the floor even if I was sitting... laughhard.gif

Where do they find idiots to do those tests? What did they expect? Do they even have brains capable of thinking?! Were they actually surprised at the results of their "scientific testing?" wacko.gif I suppose we're (they?) are lucky they didn't try shooting the iPads with any kind of gun. rolleyes.gif Next time, let's see what happens to the "testers" when they are dropped under the same conditions! Now that would be enlightening! yes.gif

Jim - If you find the drop test funny you should watch the "Blender" Test:

I'm not sure where one can find such a blender but I'm sure it's not cheap! In the end result I think the thing to consider is what kind of safety is there in the technology for your data.  I used to have to recover grad student papers that were stored only on floppy drives (8 inch, 5-1/4 inch, 3-1/2 inch) and I finally took one each of the floppies apart and stuck them to a metal shelf with a magnet so the students could see how safe their stuff was.

I don't think that "blender" guy will ever "do" an iPad, their machines are wide enough! laughhard.gif

Security is always compromised when the thief has physical possession of the media; floppy, CD, hard drive, computer, etc. And an iPhone/iPad is much easier to "possess" than most of those other things, since we tend to carry them every where we go...except sometimes when we leave! eek2.gif
