Beating on Apple about planned obsolescence policy!

There is a guy named Brian Dipert who is beating on Apple and the planned (and early) obsolescence policies that it operates under in an article/page at Electronics Design News:

The only Apple's that I have that are good enough to run the latest software belong to my office and as a someone perceived as an Apple Professional I find that sort of irksome!

I say, if he can find something that does what his Apple devices do and as well, not to mention easily, he should spend his money there. What's the problem? If you don't want to spend your money at Apple, there are plenty of other places that will take it. Just this afternoon I was driving beside a Porsche Carrera. I enforced my Daughter-in-Law that a <red one> would be fine for my Christmas. However, I suspect I'll still be driving my 2004 Highlander this time next year. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the new ones have, its resale value is not much, but it still starts and runs reliably. No, it won't play a Blu-Ray video to the passengers in the back, it doesn't even have HD radio! But it still does everything I ask of it and everything I need it to do.

I'm not sure I see such a big difference in computers. I am still using my 3G iPhone and plan on continuing until it dies. We still have people in the house using the OS that came with their Mac (10.5.. Haven't heard anyone complaining about not being able to do what they, much less what they need. I suggest Mr. Dipert buy a Zune and get on with real life...

My newest car is a 2005 Highlander that I bought from my mother-in-laws estate.  I'm still pretty happy with it and it still has less than 50,000 on the odometer.  It's a 4 cylinder and doesn't have 4 wheel drive but this winter that wasn't needed.  I'll probably trade my 2001 Avalon one of these days for something that gets better mileage but I'm in no hurry to change out the Highlander!
