MtnLion's Spotlight

Spotlight (in MtnLion) no longer seems to display the "traditional" yellow box containing the Path to the discovered item(s).

How/where is that fairly significant piece of information now situated?

Anybody know?

Stumbled across a partial answer on my own. Why not the complete one remains a mystery.

If you're happy with finding only the path for the Top Hit, then keep the title highlighted with your pointer until the large "thumbnail" appears on the left, at which point depress the ⌘ key and hold it until a lst level identifier appears at the bottom of the window and then keep depressing the key until a 2d level pops-up to replace it.

Easy (and helpful), but I wish more info was thereby produced.

Perhaps more "dumbing-down" of the OS for the casual user? This is one of those nagging things that disappeared in Lion that I just hadn't had any time to really address. Having gone pretty much straight to Lion from Leopard (10.5. there's still quite a bit to get acclimated to.

By default, Lion is set not show file extensions as well.

But, after a bit of sleuthing, I found this at MacRumors Forum:

When hovering over the file in Lion's Spotlight, hold down Command to see the filename and Command-Option for the file path.

And by hover, the poster means highlighting the file with a mouse-over as you peruse the files that come up on Spotlight.

Much quicker than having to click and hold the mouse and then hold the Command key.

I've always considered Spotlight to be a 'dumbed down' version of Finder's none too smart search capabilities. But it must serrve someone at Apple or it wouldn't still be around. :dknw: If it's real information and powerful searching you want, I'd suggest a third-party app such as PathFinder. Period. It can even replace Finder. I'm sure ther are other apps that can mimic Spotlight and some that actually use it, but that tends to also introduce the limitations and quirks of SL. One of the nice things about Mountain Lion is the removal of the space-wasting SL search box by putting the Notifications list up there.

"Easyfind" is a good search tool.... at that wonderful price point of $0.00.
Shows 'hidden/invisable' files without any other prompting.
