Hello everyone.

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 because it's so reliable. iMac 27" 2011.

I have Charter Internet 30mb service which works fine for internet service, surfing etc.

I've been having problems with their Email service. My password and login work sometimes but every week I need to call Charter

because when I open Mail I don't get my mail. I get a popup box that asks for my password and my password doesn't work.

Even if I go to Charter.net to get my Email I can't get my mail!

It's been frustrating as you can imagine calling Charter every week.

They always get it working from their side but I'm wondering if it could possible that it's on my side.

This morning I opened up Keychain Access and I had 2 pop.charter.net passwords and 2 smtp.charter.net passwords and one web.charter.net password.

Does anyone know if this could be a problem on my side or has anyone else experienced this problem with Charter.

Could be a corrupted Keychain maybe?

Try running Keychain first aid from the KeychainAccess.app in the Utilities folder. (it's under the KeychainAccess menu item)

You could also try deleting all Charter passwords from Keychain and re-entering them in Mail.

What, exactly, is Charter doing every week?

They keep changing my password on their end to Welcome1 and then I have to go in and change it to the password I prefer.

Paddy,

Someone from Charter was supposed to call me at 1:00 but they didn't call so I called them back and they did the same thing, changed my password and I was able to get my email.

They told me since this should not be happening every week, they are going to call me within the next 72 hours, try to duplicate my situation and fix it. Do you still think I should run Keychain first aid from the

KeychainAccess.app and delete all Charter passwords from Keychain and re-entering them in Mail?

There were many people having this repeated and very annoying request for your password when in Mail, at least back in SL. However, I haven't heard of it happening via webmail! The solution for me was to delete the account in Mail and create it again forcing it to use IMAP and not the default dotmac settings. No amount of changing/resetting/Keychain repairing/etc. mad any difference, there are some threads at the Apple forums dozens of pages long. wallbash.gif I really don't think it has anything to do with Charter.

I was getting these requests again a few weeks ago and simply Quit Mail and then started it up again. It happened for both my iCloud and Comcast accounts, so I assume it's Mail's behavior (or lack of it!).

I ran Keychain first aid. Then I changed the password in Mail to what they set up.

I'm able to get my email now but you know how this thing goes, I may have to to delete the account in Mail and create it again forcing it to use IMAP, like you suggested.

We'll see tomorrow.

That's the important bit. If you can't even access it via Webmail on their site, the problem is almost certainly on their end, not yours.
