<testmy.net> Site updated to use HTML5. Never used Flash, anyway. Stores your data automatically, still. clap.gif

I dunno Jim - radically different results from what I get with other bandwidth testers - both Flash and non-Flash, like this one:

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/

Yours has my speed at less than a third of what it should be, and what it tests out as with every other bandwidth test I've run. Something's fishy. (A blatant attempt to sell more copies of that less than stellar bit of software known as MacKeeper, perhaps? Hmmm?)

I don't know anything about MacKeeper. Didn't even know it was for sale through the site. I seldom even look for or at ads. I may not have even seen them on the page, I don't remember seeing them. Could be AdBlock or my domain blocker. :dknw:

I do know that my speeds were the highest I've seen since Comcast sent me an email last week about the speeds being improved. YMMV. As it often does with these 'tests.' wink.gif

There isn't an ad per se - it's a link in the results ("It may be a more serious issue...Easily diagnose and fix problems that can affect your Mac Internet speed - Test and Repair Now") which takes you to MacKeeper's web site. Sorry, but I find the whole thing a bit suspicious, given that my results on any other test site, Flash or NOT Flash, are pretty close to what my ISP is supposed to be providing, which is 25Mbps. Testmy.net claims I'm only getting 7.6Mbps at best.

None of the other test sites I've used have links to the useless bit of over-advertised nuisance-ware known as MacKeeper.... just sayin'... wink.gif

Well, I have no idea why he should want to display lower numbers than any other site. But I do know why other sites, who are sometimes sponsored/hosted on various ISPs would want to report higher numbers. dntknw.gif My numbers are basically the same using Comcast's "Speedtest" for Houston, but they are considerably higher when using Seattle or D.C. as compared to TestMy.net. I find it easier to believe that my speeds would be lower for those locations rather than almost exactly the same. OTOH, perhaps Comcast can use their own or dedicated lines to access those two locations. If that's the reason, then the speeds are basically irrelevant unless I'm going to a site that happens to be hosted on Comcast servers there.

I did see the MacKeeper link, after you told me where it was. I suspect that if you used a Windows PC you'd get a similar link to a Windows product. So what? We both know that it costs money to keep a site up, especially if you are buying (apparently) your own servers. I suspect the real business is supplying hosting. Besides, you have to click the link to even see the 'ad.' Certainly not a problem for me. As I said, I usually ignore any ad or ad link that makes it past my blockers. smile.gif

I suppose I'm simply more trusting of a site that claims to have only cross-platform, open-source, non-corporate backing than one from a huge company like Comcast. I know they have a vested interest in claiming high speeds. TesyMy.net, not so much! But they could be just another SCAM backed by some other ISP for all I know. However, from reading some of the "owners" posts, whoever owns the site doesn't have pruf-reeders! laughhard.gif

Frankly, I doubt one can get duplicate results from any two speed-check sites nor even duplicate results from any one site. There are simply too many variables. Any we don't really know how often the interweb tubes are cleaned... Is that what those "robot" things do? eek2.gif flail.gif Maybe we could get Jon to use some of his clones? Thinking.gif

My results were similar to Paddy’s 35% less than the average user on my provider.

When I tried another site, both speeds were more than double from this site.

But I’m an old codger, so what would I know. wink.gif biggrin.gif
Ignore the argumentative nature of this poster. He is old and can't engage in meaningful dialog very long.
Therefore, management asks that you at least humor him. Thanks.

Well, I got results that ranged from a low of 3.7 to 19 Mbps.  I tried several times from East/Central/West locations and got a wide variety of download speeds. Sometimes they went from 5 to 17 within a minute from the same location. And the ads I got mostly were for Verizon FIOS.

Went to Paddy's site which gave pretty regular results of around 7-8Mbps but also saw ads there for Verizon and other ISPs so I can't quibble with the other place's ads.

Checked out a couple other test sites which gave me a wide variety of results as well from 4-21 Mbps (Seattle, Wash was the 21 and I'm in NJ huh.gif).

Oh, and I found that closing Mail upped my speed since there wasn't anything else using the connection.

Bottom line, you can't rely on any one of these places to give a definitive speed since time run, apps and locations make for too many variables.

Ha...just tried your test again, Jim, and on my WIRELESS Mac I got 17Mbps. Weird. And I didn't know that the sites (any of 'em) had ads, because I have adblock installed on all my browsers!

However, I agree with Kris - obviously, one can get tremendous variations. Generally, I'm pretty happy with my internet speeds. Now, if someone could just do something about the cost....whistling.gif
