Ordered the G4 1.42 DP on 6/11 ... the cinema display arrived within a week ... sound card arrived ... speakers arrived ... the G4 was to arrive by 7/2 ... the last week of June I got an e-mail requesting a call to Apple; I was asked if I wanted to buy the G5 ... no, I want the G4 that I ordered ... so, in response, they pushed the delivery date to 7/10! I'm mentally exhausted. Thanks for allowing me to vent: this experience is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Sheesh: marketing!

Why not get the G5? What is keeping you with the G4?

firstly, would rather wait a year until the rev b (or even c) comes out; secondly, for what I use the mac for, a G4 will do just fine.

But you'll get a much more advanced computer for about the same price.

And while waiting for a rev. b or c of the G5 might get you a faster and even more advanced computer, I highly doubt that the rev. a will have any technical problems.
The times when Apple's first revisions of Macs didn't work properly are long gone.

I agree..I would have sprung for the G5. Unless you have a bunch of OS9 software that you can't update yet, but then I would still wait. Once you do go with a G5, that new G4 won't be worth much at all.

Delivery date now pushed to July 24th ... this is getting old fast ... If they do this one more time, I'm cancelling the order... I've had the Cinema Display since 11 June.

ok ... came in from work today to discover an email from Apple requesting me to call ... I was informed that the 1.42 DP was no longer available; the only option is a 1.25 DP ... or a G5

... I went with the G5 for $300 cheaper. The new system:
250 Gigs of HD
2 Gigs of RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card
Superdrive

I already have the 20" Cinema Display.

What I forgot to ask the rep is, will the M-audio Revolution sound card work with the G5? I'm assuming it will.

I asked him when it will be delivered, and he said "some time in August ...", and that because I ordered originally on 6/11/03, I "would be at the top of the list for delivery ..." (yeah, right!)

Am I happy? yes ... but ... I AM SO FRUSTRATED!

Understandable. Kind of Good News/Bad News.

The Card will probably work. Have to wait and see.

On the other hand.
