Macbook pro Lion to Snow leopard

As i plan to buy a Macbook pro...some of them have  Lion installed.

My wife has one whith Snow leopard installed, is it possible to run the Lion mac in target mode, erease it  and replace ( whith SD)    by Snow leopard ..?

First of all, you'd need to make sure that the MBP you buy can run Snow Leopard; check very carefully at Everymac.com to make sure you're looking at the right model.

Secondly, I'm not sure I'd recommend cloning one Mac to the other, unless they were the same model. Plus, you'd end up with all your wife's stuff, although that could be deleted after you create a new user account for yourself. Depending on the software you're using and the number of installations you're permitted, you could run into some issues with a clone too. (Microsoft, Adobe etc. may complain when your wife's computer appears on your network if you're both using the software at the same time).

Is there a particular reason you want to downgrade the OS?

If you really want SL, then I'd recommend ordering it from Apple. Here's the Canadian link - I'm sure there's a French equivalent. http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MC573Z/A...06-snow-leopard

Where are you buying the MBP from?

If new and from Apple, they'll all be loaded with Lion or above.

And you will NOT be able to run Snow Leopard on them.

If you are buying mac refurbs from Apple, I think most will have Lion or above installed.

But perhaps you will be able to find a refurb from Apple that has Snow Leopard, but I doubt it.

This is your safest bet, if you can find one from Apple. And you want to use Snow Leopard.

You might be able to find a refurbed MBP from a third party with Snow Leopard installed.

That probably will NOT have an Apple warranty.

I think you have been stung by this before.

You will probably be financially ahead in the long run to buy a new or refurb from Apple.

At least you will have support.

If thats the way you want to go, I'd look for the absolutely most recent MBP that will run Snow Leopard. I'd definitely stick with one of the "i" series - an i5 or i7 processor, for longevity. (Yes, you may eventually actually want or need to upgrade your OS...which applications are holding you back now?)

That means the mid-2010 or the early 2011 Macbook Pros.  I've checked the refurb store both in the US and in France, and there are none quite that old in the refurb store (late 2011 are the oldest). So, looks like you'll have to look elsewhere. It's possible that you may be able to find one still under warranty if you find a 2011 model.

Many people are not pleased with the direction that Apple seems to be going, that is, moving a lot of the OSX functionality to conform to the look and feel of the mobile iOS.  But I think the main reason is that programs that are perfectly good but need to be run under Rosetta are no longer usable.

I now have a brand new (but manufactured in Nov. 2011) MBP that I partitioned and it has Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion on it, both running quite nicely.  I will have the option of using either OS and like the security in knowing I can still use AppleWorks and my older version of Photoshop when desired. There are a few other programs for which I have yet to find ML replacements as good as the SL ones.  I suppose if I were a big user of the Cloud, I would find ML necessary, but I'm not, so I don't.

Many, Many Many Reasons!

Rosetta pops to mind immediately.
I have many PPC apps that require it.
And replacing these apps for Intel or compatible would cost many $$$$$.
And these OLD apps are still serving my purpose quite well, thank you.

And, I don't use the Cloud for anything, thank you! iCloud, Amazon Cloud, or whatever Cloud.
I like having ALL my data and programs local, where I can back them up frequently, which I do.
And, I think all my financial info and other data are much more secure than they would ever be in the Cloud.
And I store my backups in a Safe Deposit Box, which I rotate regularly.
And I like firewire. It works quite well for me, and I have numerous devices with firewire ports, both 400 and 800.

And I happen to like being an old fart. Better by far than the alternative.

All Apple OS's beyond Snow Leopard hold no appeal to me since I very strongly feel that Snow Leopard is the BEST OS Apple ever developed.
Especially 10.6.8.

And it pumps quite well on my mid-2010 iMac i7 27", also the best computer Apple ever made.

Someday I'll be left in the dust. But as long as SL keeps working for me, I am a happy camper.
