Error at web site without Flash

Based on the TidBits article referenced here by xABD, I removed flash from my system. I now have errors popping up all over the web. If it's something I want to see I leave FF and use Chrome, but I'm getting irked with all the error alerts. Most of the time FF tells me I'm missing a plugin and I click the x and close the alert; but this was a new one to me:

Since it's youtube vids, I’m a bit stumped about realplayer and why I don't either get html5 (or whatever it is), or the normal FF alert. Any idea what prompted this one? And also how to stop all these alerts without flash?

As I understand that article, deleting Flash from your system means you will have to use Chrome for viewing sites that use Flash. FF is not Chrome. Both Chrome and Safari use the Apple designed 'Webkit' engine, FF uses Mozilla.

The difference between Safari and Chrome is that Chrome sandboxes Flash which adds a layer of protection from Flash-based malware.

In FF I get a similar error dialog, but the file is described as "application/x-shockwave-flash" I have my prefs set to 'Save File' but it's the same file,

However, in Safari, I'm not getting any errors at the link you provided. Nor does anything there seem to use YouTube. Can you pinpoint a link/spot on the Topazlabs page where you get the error(s)?

I don't see any obvious differences in the page while viewing it simultaneously in FF and Safari.

That site also seems fine on my iPhone. The two 'slide shows' work fine. Not sure what's causing your errors as Flash is certainly not on any iPhone/Pad...

I solved this problem, as well as several others (like not being able to listen to my favorite radio station) by reinstalling Flash.

Kimmer, I have ClickToFlash installed on all my browsers. At the moment I have it turned off in Safari, but I could easily enable it again. (Had to look at a bunch of Flash stuff a while ago - never got around to re-enabling ClickToFlash) You can except sites too - for instance, Google Maps street view doesn't work without Flash, so you can add it to the exceptions list. Really wish Google would change that.

I have FlashBlock installed in FF and it works nicely. I have ClickToFlash installed in Safari (don't think it runs in FF). My "whitelist" is very short and I keep a copy of it in my docs folder. Every once in a while I go nuts and allow flash at a trusted shopping site and then discover that I've given adclick and other junky things permission and then I have to undo it all. I understand that flash is a risk, but you can hardly surf the web without it.

I keep hearing that, but I've just not seen it, guess I don't "get out enough!" But that's one of the reasons I've started using Chrome; the added protection of Flash running in a protected/sealed area.

As for "adclick and other junky things", I've found Ghostery great for blocking those. It has both a Safari and Chrome app, probably FF, as well. But it looks more for javascripts, I think, than Flash. If you really want to see exactly where Flash is needed, try using GlimmerBlocker. It's a System Pref, so it works in any browser.

My last irritation was not with Flash (I just don't find it needed where I surf) or javascript but the USBank Visa site that finally told me I had to have Java enabled to use their site. I've had them reset my password at least six times in 18 months and was still never able to log in. In the rare instances when I want info, I'll just keep some of their phone people employed!
