Anybunny know whassup wit SpamCop?
« on: July 09, 2003, 07:09:07 PM »
I have been periodically reporting a certain portion of the SPAM I receive to SpamCop for a couple o' years.

I use the method whereby I send the offending email, with full headers, to a 'special' address, and then later receive a reply informing me that 'SpamCop has accepted 1 email for processing,' whereupon I click a link in that msg and get taken to a web page to complete the process.

But for the last two days I get nothing but 'A connection failure has occurred' for my efforts, and when I put www.spamcop.net into my browser's address field just now, hoping to learn something about what was going on, I got the same connection failure error.

???????

Thnask, Bill!

At first glance, though, that does not look like the same outfit...

Was able to connect to Spamcop this morning and there was a message that they are suffering from a DOS attack.  They were almost gleeful, said it validated their position.......

_________edit
Was able to get in at 9:46 a.m on 7-10.  From the front page

Service update: Crackers bringing us down
At midnight pacific time, the ongoing Denial of Service attack picked up a lot of steam, swamping the routers upstream of SpamCop with about 500Mbits of traffic. We are doing what we can, but defending against this sort of thing is not always possible.

Spamcop.com IS a different outfit. Right now, spamcop.net is completely down - no connection at all.

I'm almost 100% positive Paddy is correct Kbear.
Didn't want to say much before till I snooped around some.
Plus I had to get into ebay and shoot some emailers off.

>Don't know if any else has noticed but it appears ebay changed their format around<

Back on spamcop.
Just have to wait awhile to see if the net spamcop pops its head back up.

Strange that I can still 'report' a SPAM to Spamcop.net via email, and get a reply via email sometime later that it's ready to be processed, but can't get to them via the web because of a DOS attack*...different ports, I guess.

thnask for the info, y'all!

*Why don't they upgrade to something newer, more modern? Who uses DOS anymore?  That certainly explains why they're having technical problems....Devilish2.gif  tongue.gif

SpamCop is back, as of this afternoon. They were felled by a DoS attack aimed at their upstream provider.

They're back.

You may want to log in and click the "unreported spam" link.
