Selling iBook G4
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:53:51 AM »
I'm selling my old iBook. I think I have removed all working files, emails, bookmarks, etc. I'm leaving on old apps - Photoshop 7, InDesign CS3, etc.
Just to be sure, are there instructions somewhere what and how to remove personal information?

The only thing I haven't been able to do is disconnect Airport from my Router permanently. Where can I do that?

Thanks!

I wish I could help you directly but unfortunately the only system I have that was still running OS 10.4 is not running period (it probably doesn't like the basement).  But, if you have your system CD or DVD you would probably do yourself and whoever you're selling it to a good deed by just erasing the hard drive and redoing the system from scratch!  That would probably solve any issues with passing on software and hidden information which and "if" you're able to also pass on the additional software you can let them install it themselves!

Raven, check this thread out: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/194750...=0&tstart=0 - I think it will solve this problem, though so would changing your network password. wink.gif Unless you sell the laptop to your next door neighbour, it's not an issue anyway!

Of more concern is the software - legally you cannot leave the software installed unless you also hand over the disks for the software, in the case of the Adobe software, you also need to transfer the ownership. In this case, the software may be worth more than the computer. Also - if you own updates versions of any of this software, legally you need to retain the original full install disks.

iBook G4s on eBay are $60-$90 (sold prices) these days. Might be better to GIVE it to someone in need.

I found how to disconnect Airport.
Just sold it to two young guys visiting Canada from India. For 79 bucks they will use it at the hotel where they work to connect back online home. They can't afford a new MBP. And even the old software on OSX 10.4.11 will keep em happy for a year. Everyone's happy!
