Teen remains jailed after violent comments posted on Facebook

QUOTE
This week, Carter’s parents have told members of the media that their son’s comments were meant in jest and were immediately followed up by “LOL” and “J/K,” which they say show that the threats—made in New Braunfels, Texas—were not meant to be taken seriously.

Personally i find it offensive and abusive when people say hurtful things and then try to disguise it as "humour" by adding some variant of the pathetic lame rejoinder "Just Kidding".....

It's almost as bad as the mother of a rapist/murderer saying, "He's really such a nice boy!" Give me a break!

OTOH, i also find it offensive that our prisons can't protect the inmates while people are incarcerated. Jail isn't meant to be fun, but it should not be life-threatening, either.

I noticed that the parents of the Boston Marathon bombers characterised them as "angelic".......

I can't whip up much ethusiasm for so-called "human rights" (like a vote!!) for inmates.  Seems to me it should take more than just a DNA string to qualify as "human".   Seems to me there is a behavioural code of human behaviour.  Violate that code by making others or another uncomfortable (as in committing a crime against him/her/them), then you abdicate your claim on 'human rights'.

It usually depends on the crime what happens to the inmate. If they hurt elderly, babies, pets and more, they usually get some pretty nasty stuff done to them. Teaches them a lesson, maybe think they might not want to be in prison again. The people who commit that kind of crime usually deserve what they get.
Maybe its a bit tough on that kid, as he didn't actually commit the crime, but he didn't use his brain, and maybe this will wake him up.

He made a serious mistake.
He is human.
Humans are known to make mistakes, some worse than others.
We (humans) have even put to death people by mistake after they were judged to be guilty... yep, by humans, who make mistakes.
Return to the first line and repeat until you realize we need a better system. And hope and pray you never get incarcerated (or worse)... by mistake.

We all learn from our mistakes, but when we propose or do something violent, then we learn more quickly.

I forgot to say, I LOVE the banner, its beautiful!

Not being in the 'profession' I would add "admitted" between "our" and "mistakes". I know of one person, very closely related to my wife, who has never made a mistake. Ever! laughhard.gif   Many think she is a sweet lady. rolleyes.gif OTOH, your quote may be appropriate as she has never revealed her true self to even her closest friends. dntknw.gif

Happy you like the banner. I do also, and the artist won't tell where/when he took this photo.  dry.gif  I know he'd love to hear that enjoy his "work of art", but I can promise you that he will NOT set foot in this thread, so maybe you would start a separate thread? I promise to point him to your comment thread, and I'll nag  pillow.gif  him until he replies.  toothgrin.gif
