I have a friend who is upgrading from a G4 Cube to a iMac, will target mode work when using migration assistant? The cube is running 10.3. Thank you!!!

You can boot the cube into target mode but it's probably not possible to migrate from 10.3 to 10.8 (which the new iMac will have installed). According to
this support article
:
Migrating from OS X Tiger v10.4 to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 or later is not supported and is not expected to complete via Migration Assistant. For upgrades from OS X Tiger or older to OS X Mountain Lion or later, you can make a standard file sharing connection and manually copy your files. Recommended folders to transfer from your Home folder on the old computer to the new computer are:
Documents
Music
Movies
Pictures
Desktop
Copy these folders and any others you'd like to transfer to the same locations on the new computer. For more information regarding file sharing in OS X, see Mac Basics - File sharing. Note: Copying any data files from your user Library folder to the new computer could have unexpected results.
It might be a good idea to see if Apple can do the transfer. Since you can't migrate from 10.4, it's unlikely that you can do it from 10.3.

Thanks for this info, Jon. We have a friend who will, hopefully, be upgrading within the next 6 months or so, and I wasn't aware we couldn't help him do the MA route. Putting this info in my "help GS folder".

I thought I read that M/A would not work with that old of an OS, if I remember correctly even 10.5.6 won't work with M/A, but not sure?

That article specifically says that 10.4 and earlier won't work. My guess is that 10.5 will, but you could check with Apple about that.
