Load PHotoshop on more than one mac?
« on: September 03, 2013, 12:32:22 AM »
I reluctantly upgraded to version CS6 last year or Adobe would require me to buy a full version. Same for InDesign CS6. Of course Adobe is pushing its Creative Cloud option which I will NEVER do. There are many reasons against that. They've got us freelance designers backed into a corner!

My Adobe apps are on my iMac. I need to add the apps to my MacBook Pro. Tried to search on Adobe Forums how to download an app to more than one computer. No results. I know Adobe is removing and editing posts if you complain about the Creative Cloud option. Frustrating.

Any idea how I can download a second version of Photoshop and InDesign to my laptop?

Download the trial versions, then enter your registered serial number.

To further clarify, Raven, Adobe has always allowed one to install and activate the apps on two computers, recognizing that many users have both desktops and laptops. However, you are supposed to be the primary user of both computers and both installations of Creative Suite cannot be in use at once. However, in practice, the apps don't phone home after activation or see each other on the network, so you can run both copies at once, should you need to. However, you do only get the two activations, so be sure to deactivate on your old machine first, before attempting to install on a new computer. You can, of course call Adobe to reset your activations if a hard drive dies or similar disaster strikes.

When I got my Mac Pro and migrated everything from my old G4, I launched Photoshop on the MP. I got a popup message asking if I wanted to deactivate PS from my old computer. Since I was going to give it away after erasing the hard drive, I clicked OK. I didn't have to contact Adobe; it was all done automatically.

You only have to call Adobe if you have no way to access the drive with the activated copy of your Adobe software. wink.gif (ie: hard drive died...I had that happen once)

I've yet to have it automatically ask if I wanted to deactivate on an old machine from the new machine; did you use Migration Assistant? I had to deactivate on my old machine and then put the serial number in to activate the migrated copy of CS6. Like MS Office, the activations don't tend to move when you use Migration Assistant, so it's important to keep your serial numbers handy. (Put 'em in 1Password wink.gif )

In my case (using CS3 at the time), I did use Migration Assistant but I didn't have to re-enter the serial number. That, apparently, happened automatically.

Thanks everyone.  I gave my iBook away that had the 2nd copy of Photoshop. I deleted it.
Will have to contact Adobe.

Yes, that's one of the other reasons you'd have to call Adobe...deleting before deactivating. tongue.gif

When my iMac died this past November, I couldn't deactivate PS. Once I had my new iMac, I used the chat room featured at adobe's site and they helped me add my new iMac and delete the old one. Was actually fairly easy. At least that's my memory of it, and since my brain is a sieve ... well, make your own conclusions. wink.gif  toothgrin.gif
