Connecting MacBookPro to new iMac

My new iMac has no optical drive. I would like to access the built-in CD/DVD drive in my MBP, thus eliminating the need to purchase an external optical drive.

I am connected via Ethernet cable. I have turned ON Sharing on both computers, and I can access the MBP's internal hard drive.

Up to now I have been unable to access the CD/DVD drive. What else do I need to do?

Do you have DVD/CD sharing enabled?

I set things up on my wife's MBP but I need to locate a CD that's not Audio! wink.gif

OK, with a CD full of images, nothing else, I'm not seeing anything on my side except for her whole HD. Maybe that's why I haven't done this before. dntknw.gif I also Restarted her machine in case it needed to update her Prefs.

I just tried it with my Retina and my Mac Pro - put an Office 2008 install disk in the Mac Pro, checked the DVD share box on the Mac Pro's system prefs and voila - it shows up on the MBP. Not that I want to install it on the MBP, considering Orifice 2011 is already installed, but it works just fine, exactly as they said in the first article. Didn't need any more detailed instructions than that. smile.gif Nice to know that installing things from disks easily is a possibility, should I need it. I really and truly haven't missed the optical drive with the Retina at all - anything that was installed on my previous MBP via disk was installed on this one via Migration Assistant, and everything new has been downloaded.

Nice to know it works but I'm not sure I understand crippling the Remote **** function on a machine that has an optical drive. It could be handy to be able to read a CD on another machine on the network even if you have a an optical drive in your machine. The obvious, if paranoid, reason is to prevent unsung two or more machines to copy a CD. Paranoid.gif Thinking.gif
