Is this going to be a busy weekend at Apple Support?
« on: July 04, 2014, 03:12:17 PM »
I won't be making the update for at least a week. Here's the usual minimalist "info" about the update.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

I've updated and am experiencing no problems so far. This update contains a raft of security fixes, though most of them seem to be pretty exotic.

For those having difficulty installing the update: Overcome an OS X 10.9.4 update checksum error.

So one yes vote, and no others. I'm waiting to hear from more folks. I'm chicken, especially since I just landed in 10.9.3 and had to fix issues. wink.gif

With a fairly clean install and 'fixed' problems, you're probably in the best position to update! I really think most people's problems are from not having a fully 'native' install to begin with. That's been the cause of any problems I've ever had, anyway (and no one else's experience matters! rant.gif ). Of course, we are always at the mercy of less then perfect checking by for compatibility problems with current software, unfortunately, that sometimes includes Apple's... rolleyes.gif I think it's a bit early to start "collecting the voices". wink.gif

Does this translate to: "You try it, kimmer, and let me know how it goes." tease.gif

I check Software Update daily as part of my morning routine. Always accept their suggestions. Never have a problem. What am I doing wrong?

You have a serious and sometimes fatal character fault! You are simply too trusting!!! eek2.gif You need to practice cynicism or is that senility... laughhard.gif

1.9.4 fixes a Wi-Fi problem, which I have not experienced.
Nor have I had trouble with it waking from sleep, or the logo problem on startup.

Safari 7.0.5 has some bugs which I dont want to get, so looks like I am going to wait for this update.
Read that YouTube videos wont play sometimes, and there have been a few reports of crashes.

Yes, I will wait till I see the go-ahead here.

I haven't seen any of those problems (YouTube videos play fine for me). The reason I recommend not waiting to install 10.9.4 is that it and the new Safari both fix a bevy of security issues, including issues that can cause exploitation of your Mac by visiting a specially booby-trapped Web site.

Thank you, I dont hit many websites that could be bad, but you never know.  Was watching a news site today, and up popped a stupid video, that had nothing to do with the news or weather!
I will do the update right now,,,,,,

Safari seems faster and everything is just fine.
Thanks for the 'courage' to do it.
Jane

I ran the update the evening of July 5th, but not by choice.  dry.gif  Shortly after upgrading to 10.9.x, I started having the "black screen with cursor" when waking my iMac from sleep. By using Google I found some help at the ... wait for this ... Apple support forums.  ohmy.gif  They said the black screen was likely an issue with an automatic update that never quite got past the login screen.

Here's what I did:
  1. Shut down my iMac and counted to ten.
  2. Restarted iMac in safe mode (press shift at startup until I saw the progress bar start moving).
  3. Logged into admin acct.
  4. Apple support said that next should be a notice of: "Completing OSX Installation", I never saw that statement. However, my iMac was sluggish and I looked around and sure enough software was being installed. Suddenly the app store opened and said I had lots of stuff to install. I skipped it all (iPages, iPhoto, iThis and iThat), and then I noticed that 10.9.4 was installing and would require a restart. Not sure how that happened as I opt to do this stuff manually, but it was too late.
Since the upgrade I've had no further problems with the black screen when waking from sleep, and everything seems to work fine (although 2 games no longer work).

So, xABD, now you know. laugh.gif

Oh, Oh!
The videos on the local news channel do not show any more with this new Safari update.
We were warned of this. I watch the news first thing in the morning, so this is a pain in the tail-feathers. Will use Chrome or Firefox for the news until Apple fixes this one.
Would think Apple would fix this right away, as videos are an important part of the news, and YouTube is very very popular too. Lots of people will be making FF or Chrome their browser of choice for now.
