There is an area in North Topeka, Kansas where "autonomous" switching engines move trains around some places that cross a road I used to frequent. I have
chosen, after some thought, not to drive there anymore; I'm sure it's "ok" to move rail cars around with a robotic system but I'd just as soon not share the road
with them! I'm sure the same thing might occur to me about "autonomous" automobiles in the future with California granting the first permit to AUDI for testing
autonomous vehicle on the roads of California with Nevada, Michigan and Florida to follow:
California expects to have regulations in place by the end of the year that will govern self-driving
vehicles once they are in the hands (so to speak) of the general public. I’m curious as to how much
California is charging for these registrations compared with the amounts paid by the rest of us—it is,
after all, a way to make an extra buck that’s badly needed.
In a recent study conducted by IHS Automotive, up to 230,000 autonomous vehicles will be on the
road by 2025, zooming up to 11.8 million by 2035.
