Yosemite may be out today?

In the meantime, check all your third-party apps (anything that did not come from Apple) to see if they're ready for Yosemite. The Mac App Store can show you any updates for stuff you got there. If you got them from the developer's site, that's the best place to check. You did record any serial numbers, purchase dates, download urls, version numbers and such, right? (just another reason to use 1Password... wink.gif )

(A great way to see what apps you have that are not from Apple is to open System Information (press the Option key and select the Apple Menu), then select Software->Applications and click the "Obtained from" column header/label.)

Next, just continue with your regularly scheduled bootable backups. BTW, when was the last time you confirmed that a bootable backup would actually boot your system? dntknw.gif If you're not making backups, go ahead and try the new OS, when it crashes, you'll never forget to make those regular backups again... Many developers have already issued updates that make their apps compatible with Yosemite. I've only found one or two that didn't work on the Yosemite BETA, but my tests were extremely limited and not very thorough. Still, most apps should work fine, but it would be wise to know of any that might cause you problems.

Finally, if you use your Mac for anything important, like earning a living eek2.gif , just relax and wait for the early adopters to discover the things that are still broken! Even with the public BETA 'exercising', there are always a few things that are only discovered after the software is 'set free'! wallbash.gif

http://roaringapps.com already has an app compatibility chart for Yosemite. smile.gif

I will update when I find time...right now, it's not a good time. Too much work right now, plus we're going to Japan & China for 3.5 weeks a month from today - if I get it done before I leave, it will be a minor miracle. tongue.gif

Can't help but be curious though - so anyone who is out there on the bleeding edge, do tell us how it goes!

Also, anyone notice the lovely new 5K screen 27" iMacs that just got announced? I'll be watching for the reviews from the photo community - I might even consider one if they get a resounding thumbs up, since the internal storage on a new Mac Pro is more or less nonexistent (actually worse than an iMac) and my major complaint about the iMacs was the screen.

One change I didn't notice with the Beta, during a normal boot up, you will no longer see the proverbial spinning pizza. You will now see a thin (because that's the way they are now) progress bar. This is what we would see when booting into Safe mode in prior OS's. So, don't be surprised/nervous when you see that. You are not unexpectedly booting up in Safe mode, it's just the 'new' look. It's a feature, not a bug! laughhard.gif

If you actually make a Safe mode start up, you'll see "Safe Boot" in the Menu Bar Probably where you'd expect to see the booting User's Name (the text will be red, even if it's not read). That text will be there, at least until you actually log in.
