Tom, Comcast is the cable provider in Beaverton:
http://www.comcast.com/LocalHomePage/defau...esult&Zip=97005Lucky you! After 6 years here in MA, I still miss Corvallis (where we spent 1991-1997). I have several friends in both Corvallis and in Portland, and one of my husband's former OSU colleagues works at Intel.
There also seem to be a number of Mac resellers in the area, in addition to the one already noted. Here's one with several locations:
http://www.thecomputerstore.com/ (you can click on their "old web site" for more info) - they even have a store in Corvallis, which wasn't there when we were there. Of course, Richard got the University educational discount, so we either bought stuff through OSU or from catalogues.
Good luck with the move...and since you're moving from CA, you'll no doubt hear a few of these:
One time there were three men sitting around a campfire. One was from Texas, and was drinking tequila. One was from California, and was drinking wine. One was from Oregon, and was drinking beer ("Henry's" - the common beer in Oregon). Suddenly the Texan threw his bottle of tequila into the air and shot it with his pistol.
"Why did you do that?" asked the others.
"Because where I come from we have lots more tequila," he replied.
Then the Californian threw his bottle of wine into the air and shot it with his pistol.
"Why did you do that?" asked the others.
"Because where I come from we have lots more wine," he replied.
Then the Oregonian threw his bottle of beer into the air and shot the Californian with his pistol.
"Why did you do that?" asked the Texan.
"Because where I come from we have lots more Californians, but I can get five cents for the bottle."
And...
Q: How many Californians does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Six. One to turn the bulb, one for support, and four to relate to the experience.
Q: How many Oregonians does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Five. One to change the bulb and four more to chase off the Californians who have come up to relate to the experience.
But don't worry - well over half my friends in Corvallis were transplanted Californians...and even they joke about it. Oregon (and more specifically, the higher-growth areas like the Willamette Valley) has a high number of "immigrants" from other states and other countries. If you can stand the gray & wet (but mild & very green) winters, it's a wonderful, friendly, laid back sort of place to live. I've cut the grass in December, while admiring the last rose or two, and enjoyed Camellias blooming at the end of January...not something we ever get to do here in MA!
Good luck with your move!
