The Cube is back :o
« on: July 21, 2003, 09:03:05 AM »
Woaaaah, who would have thought of this.
Apple generously letting an other supplier to sell an upgraded G4 Cube.
To see the new Cube's spec's.

But still not upgradable i guess sad.gif

Interesting. $1879. smile.gif

Kind of pricey. But worth it for some I'm sure. smile.gif

Especially "pricey" when I recall I was thinking about a Cube at the end of its "run" by Apple, and Fry's was getting them off-the shelves for $999.

I was about a half-a-day late, if not a $ short wink.gif

High price for a machine that Apple probably won't support in ROM  B)

Not sure how you mean that one? (forgive me) wink.gif

Also  note that the price is without a monitor of any kind.
Than again, since they stuffed it with a (nearly) new graphics card... don't you think it might be upgradable somehow?

400 MHz Cubes are going for $800 or more. smile.gif

This one has the Sonnet Upgrade. $500 plus.

I Gig of RAM.

120 Gig Hard Drive.

And a GeForce 3 (Whatever that is) Video Card.

All put together for you and sure to work.

Not that bad of a deal for what you get.

And they throw in the Apple Pro Speakers. wink.gif

It's not outrageous for a Cube fan.

I think they'll sell.

Still calling the Cube "non-upgradeable"...

Let's see, I added RAM, swapped out the hard drive for an 80GB IBM, replaced the video card with a GeForce 2 MX, added an Airport card, and if I wanted too, could ship it to Sonnet for the processor.

So, the only thing you can't upgrade is the fan.  Oh, wait... tongue.gif

 Woooow, that's great.
Soooo, like the graphic card... it IS a standard PCI card inside the cube?

Yup...you just have to remove the back plate from the card before inserting and screwing it in.  Simple, but not well known.

Not worth it, I would just get a new G5 and a 17" FP monitor and have something with more speed and chic design.  I owned a cube for 4 days and returned it back to the store, cable under it kept coming loose and the CD drive didn't work unless you popped it on the side every time you put a cd in the cube.

G5's are here...  move forward...
