Just in case there are STILL questions about MacKeeper
« on: May 11, 2015, 07:47:12 PM »
IT World headline: <Apple security program, MacKeeper, celebrates difficult birthday>
MacKeeper, a utility and security program for Apple computers, celebrated its fifth birthday in April. But its gift to U.S. consumers who bought the application may be a slice of a $2 million class-action settlement...

The story estimates that the "developers" made at least "$26 million in revenue in the U.S. alone"! wallbash.gif I'm sure they'll happily fork over a couple of million knowing that only a few will ever know about the partial "refund".

Please! Don't touch this app with even a 25 foot pole!! rolleyes.gif

MacKeeper also just patched a 0-day vulnerability that could let attackers take complete control of a computer running it:

Oh goody! Even better. rolleyes.gif

Malware. It's malware. Repeat after me: MacKeeper is malware and nobody needs it. EVER.

For those who have been unfortunate enough to be afflicted, read How to manually remove MacKeeper from your Mac.

I had removed the MacKeeper app previously from my Applications folder and my back up EHD.

Now I read there are left over files elsewhere. Do I still need to remove them as described in jchuzi's link?

I don't know how necessary that is, but for myself, I would definitely take the time and trouble to do it.

Fortunately, I won't have to view those since I (hopefully) don't have a FB account and I never even downloaded MK. rolleyes.gif
