scam alert (not new)
« on: July 10, 2015, 02:30:59 PM »
I just received the following email from someone I know:

Really hope you get this fast. I could not inform anyone about my trip, because it was impromptu. Am stranded here in Manila, Philippines since last night. I was hurt and robbed on my way to the hotel I stayed and my luggage is still in custody of the hotel management pending when I make payment on outstanding bills I owe.

Please let me know if you can quickly help with a LOAN. I will refund the money back to you as soon as I get back home.

 Greg

I know about this type of scam, so I phoned the person in question to verify (and, BTW, Greg is her husband, not her). She confirmed that the email was fake. She has an AOL email address and told me that her password was compromised. She is in the process of changing it.

Just thought I'd alert everyone in case they had forgotten this particular con.

Yeah, but what about poor Greg! I lived in the P.I. for over 2 years and I know these things happen, quite often! I was stationed at Clark AB, which originally had two runways. They were parallel to each others. About a year before I arrived, it was discovered that one of them had disappeared! It was found a few months later, some 26 miles south of Clark. It was now a new P.I. Air Force field!! Apparently, the construction crew had failed to actually nail it down! You know what they say, "If it ain't nailed down..." wallbash.gif

Of course, this was over 45 years ago, I'm sure it is better, now...
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
