Apple Mail does not auto check for email
« on: July 10, 2015, 07:14:34 PM »
Today I switched to Apple Mail Version 8.2 (2098), under 10.10.3. My acts are all POP accts, and Mail is set to check for email every 15 minutes. Mail has yet to do this, and I have to tell it get email - which works, so I know it can log in to my server. A quick search showed me a lot of people had this problem, but I failed to find a solution. If there isn't one, then I’m going back to Thunderbird.

Hope one of you gurus knows the secret.

I don't know the secret, but Fix Mail not sending or receiving messages after updating OS X may have some helpful hints. BTW, one of my pet peeves (look at this, Jim!) is the improper use of apostrophes. (Just thought that I would be annoying.)   Devilish2.gif

Right! I always wondered, like, what that thing was called! laughhard.gif Do they come from the splitting of those twin, upper, squiggly things? Or maybe they are adult versions of the lower squiggly things, which are, so often over used, by some, people. dntknw.gif

After spending hours trying to track down the problem by following all the instructions in the link that Jon shared, MAIL was still not working properly and I gave up. I simply don't have the time to keep messing with things. I remember when Apple Mail simply worked. Now I feel like I have to be a computer programer to use many of the Apple apps. Shall we talk about how unintuitive Keystone Keynote is? No let's not. I'm not in the mood.

"Keystone"? Thinking.gif dntknw.gif

As for Mail, are you trying to set it up in the app or in your Internet Accounts System Prefs?

I was following the instructions from the page that Jon linked to. Now, I'm off to battle slides in Keynote.

Ah ha! Keynote can be as hard as a 'stone' until you get your head wrapped around the concept of animating a slideshow. If I remember correctly, you did not use/have the old version, correct? Of course, trying to use a new(ish) app just hours before you have to display your 'skills' with it tends to get ones heart rate up! eek2.gif

It's been a while since I used Keynote (the older version), but I'd be glad to help where I can. Perhaps you could start a new thread and ask specific questions about it. Otherwise, this thread could end up with lots of unrelated info/posts/complaints/angry comments! tongue.gif

True, that.  flower-smilie.gif

I'll drop you an email in the next few days and tell you the whole story. I'm sure it will fascinate you. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OK, I'll leave the 'puter on 24/7 and setup an Automator alarm so I won't miss it! Meanwhile, I'll brush up on my rusty Keystone Cop movies! laughhard.gif

I recently had problems with Mail, but it was due to setting up a new domain and accidentally changing the password in the other one. Mail just couldn't understand the problem of a different PW, new mail server, etc. I do believe Mail has as much distrust and dislike of change as I do... blush-anim-cl.gif

I ended up deleting the old accounts and started over... a couple of times! wallbash.gif
