MBP print problem
« on: July 16, 2015, 05:31:00 AM »
After following the advice from the link in Jim's thread, we've had problems printing out documents. An A4 document prints with tiny type filling roughly the top-left one-eighth of the sheet, whether sent to the printer from TextEdit or from a PDF created from TE's print window. They look OK in Preview

Same document, transferred from the MBP to the iMac (Mountain Lion) prints without problems.

I'm guessing there's a corrupt plist somewhere in the MBP, but would be grateful for advice on where to start unsure.gif

If all else fails, you can reset the printing system. The only downside is that you'll lose any presets that you might have established and you'll have to re-do them.

If Jon's method doesn't work:
    1. Make sure the MBP has the current drivers for the printer/OS.
    2. Delete the printer in the Print & Fax(?) Prefs, then add it back. You often have a choice of either the printer drivers or CUPS; trying each one may deliver the correct output... or knot. wink.gif
Also found a couple of sites discussing this problem, be comforted in knowing that it occurs in Windows, also! laughhard.gif

One site spoke of a pref in TE that can specify "Format > 'Wrap to Page.'” There may be something like that in the PDF app you're using. BTW, is that Adobe Reader (Pro or free) or Preview?

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

Thank you both.

Fortunately, Jim's No 2 solution worked, just deleting and adding back, so didn't have to go through the others  thumbup.gif

Edit: I was using the Apple Preview prog for the PDF; TE was definitely set to Wrap to Page, not Wrap to Window.

That delete/add back has worked many times for a printer my wife and I share. It's USB connected to her MBP (the Ethernet board in the printer broke). If we have a power outage, things don't always come back on in a certain order. Usually, it means I can't access the shared printer. Sometimes I have to delete it on my machine, but sometimes it has to be done on hers. wallbash.gif Fortunately, it's a black & white, laser printer, so we don't have a bunch of different graphics related settings saved on it.

Wouldn't it be great to have a procedure like that for non-computer problems... just delete it and add it back... or maybe not! laughhard.gif
