Posting personal mac info?
« on: July 27, 2015, 09:07:11 PM »
As per Paddy,
"Please do give us your iMac specs (add them to your "My Macs" section in your profile, so you don't have to keep telling us) Raven. "

I did that a while back! So I just checked again.
Under MY CONTROLS , EDIT PROFILE INFORMATION (left column), MY MACS (on the bottom right side), the field shows my Mac info that I entered long time agon.

But under VIEWING PROFILE, PROFILE, in the left margin nothing shows under the heading
 "Other Information/ My Macs:"

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

This form may be a bit flakey. The first time I attempted to edit something I was told I needed to complete the form. The second attempt presented a very short box with text saying the edit had been saved. It appeared for only a second and I could see there was more text than would fit into the hard-coded size of the box. At any rate, the new info does show in my Profile area under my name in any post I make.

The key, of course, is to click the "Amend my..." button at the extreme bottom of the edit page. wink.gif

My Mac info is in the 'My Controls' box, but does not show up on my posts - been gone for some time now.

How do I get them to display?

Maybe too long??

Works here, as long as I use the "Amend..." button. dntknw.gif

What settings do you have in Prefs->Privacy->Cookies and website data:? TS does use cookies... Thinking.gif

I also clicked on the Amend button.

In Prefs>Privacy, I allow Techsurvivors.net in the Exceptions panel.

In the Privacy pane, I have "Do not tell sites anything about my tracking preferences" checked
and "Clear history when Firefox closes' checked.

any problem there?

Jack

And in Settings:
When I quit ff, automatically clear in History:
• Browsing & Download History
• Active Logins
• Form & Search History
• Cache
Data:Offline Website Data

Added - the info also does not show when I check ts in Safari.

See if editing and saving in Safari makes any difference. OTOH, cookies may not have anything to do with it. wallbash.gif The real problem may be a failure in the database on the TS server.

I did that to no avail.

Is it possible my descript is too long and ts is just ignoring it?

I doubt it's too long nor does it have to fit into the text box on that page. I had troubles a few years ago getting my info updated. One of the founders sprinkled some magic 'edit dust' and managed to get the problem fixed. She may she on vacation right now... dntknw.gif Thinking.gif I'll take a look at the management options available, but I won't touch anything unless I can verify it is related to this problem. I don't want to be known as the "Expert" who took down Techsurvivors!! eek2.gif nono.gif scram.gif

I find it easiest to copy what is in the "My Macs" area of my profile into Text Edit, make the needed changes, then copy that edited text, delete what is in My Macs and paste the changed descriptions back into My Macs, and, finally, "Amend my Profile.. Then it shows along side any posting you make and anyone can reference it....  (see the My Macs area to the left of this post).

YMMV...
