Missing Icon
« on: September 13, 2015, 06:46:25 AM »
OK... it would appear that at least "part" of the problem with my image files is a missing "tif, tiff" icon. Just the generic Preview one that is the standard in OS X 10.8.5...

So... would someone PLEASE email me a "tif, tiff" icon? You can send it to dlkoke(AT)gmail(DOT)com
...or tell me how the BLEEP to get it back myself?
This is driving me bonkers!

Even all the way back to the first back up on my TimeMachine is messed up... I don't get it and don't know what to do about it short of a full re-format which is NOT going happen!!!   wacko.gif

Go to Finder > Preferences > Advanced and be sure that "Show all filename extensions" is checked. If it is, try toggling it off and on.

Thanks... I'll give that a try. After some hunting around the net, I've seen complaints by PhotoShop CS6 messing up icons... no answers though... just that they've reported it to Apple. Also I found this, which is interesting:http://superuser.com/questions/191955/what...el-user-in-os-xI wondered who on Earth "wheel" was and apparently it used to be important when you needed to be in that group to do some things in Terminal, however it is now irrelevant and newer versions of OS X have changed it to "admin" This would explain why many of my files are simply "fetching" some user the OS doesn't know of... "apparently." wink.gif

Well...  notworthy.gif You are a genius, Jon! That little trick in Finder's preferences did the trick with the missing "tif" icon! Many thanks...

I'm glad that it worked. My wife would beg to differ about my being a genius. When I told her that I was a perfect idiot, she said "Nobody's perfect."   wallbash.gif
