firefox 38.2.1esr
« on: September 19, 2015, 09:57:39 PM »
I tried updating to ff 38.2.1esr from 31.8esr today.

totally changed and screwed up !!!!

where's the preference pane? the only item under ff is 'quit firefox'.  what's with that??

when i try to display cookies, it brings up the list smak-dab in the middle of the browser window, and won't let me move it outside

i like to have my cookies updated and on display while i surf.

totally fubar and unusable imo.

scrapped it and reverted.

POS !!!!

What browser would you recommend that doesn't change and get updated every day?

and is usable????

I need it for Snow Leopard.

i use safari in mavs, and did use ff 31.8esr

no comments jim!!!

please pardon my /rant\ and \language/.

Me confused. If you don't have anything under Firefox how did you get to the prefs and see the Cookies window?

Anyway, open a separate window and then go to the prefs and open the Cookies window. Put that to the side so you can see it and go on with your browsing in another window.

I use FF on my Intel Macs but use TenFourFox on my PPC.

In the upper right corner is a several bar tool.
clicking on that brought up a pallette, of which one was prefs

As i said, there is nothing under the 'firefox' except quit.

I'm supposed to be able to 'customize', but i sure don't know how!!

sorry about the /rant/

Apparently is was a bug in that iteration of FF.

Here is one solution:

"I just updated my previously installed Firefox 38.0.1 to 38.0.5 on a Mac running on 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), and experienced the exact same problem when Firefox relaunched. Immediately looked here for information and was glad to see this thread.

Restarting in Safe Mode did not restore the missing items in the Firefox menu for me either, but then they reappeared after I quit Firefox and relaunched it normally. Very odd problem that I have never seen before in all the years I've been using Firefox, but I'm glad it was so easy to resolve the issue."

OK, I did ff in Safe mode, and got the menu items back under firefox.

But still same fubar, the Cookies pane is smack dab in the middle of the ff window:

Got any ideas how I can revert to old ways?

If I can't, I will be serious about replacing ff.

Thanks,

Jack

I think what Kriss is suggesting is to open a new window, so you have at least two windows open. Then open one with the Cookies display and use the other for normal browsing. I assume the one with the cookies display could be made as small as possible, so you won't lose too much screen real estate. dntknw.gif

Jim is correct. FF now shows the cookies in that "popup" window and there is no way to separate it. You would have to have two FF windows open but you can use the corner adjustment to shrink the browser window that has the cookies popup to just the size of the cookies so it would be really no different than dragging it off as you have been doing.

This image is on my 11" MacBook Air so the cookies window looks rather large in comparison to the regular window and obviously there is little extra space to keep two windows on this screen.

Yes to both Jim & Krissel.

I did that (2) windows, but it gets dicey when you want to check other Prefs.

I'm now actively looking for another browser.

You have a favorite that isn't crippled?

And doesn't have the Google tracking or other misbehavior?

Thanks,
