Masters are the original photos
« on: September 21, 2015, 03:39:03 PM »
I just found out that Masters is the folder where all your original pictures are stored in iPhoto.
And I have many libraries, and have finally located them all in the Masters folder.

A bit convoluted, but now that I know where the original ones are, I can copy them.
The rest of the stuff on this computer, I will do with Migration assistant.

I have your instructions for installing Snow Leopard, I bought the disk.
So now I have to continue to cull the stuff I dont want on the new computer, thats difficult to do, so much stuff to sort thru!

More questions coming, thank you all!

OK, now I have an extra copy of all my pictures on this 24 inch computer on another ext hard drive.
So now, I can continue culling, and then I can follow the instructions and back this one up, and move all or most of it to my new 27 inch one.
Whew, then will upgrade it to the top OS available.

Put it back to factory standards.
Then copy my husband's hard drive, move it to this 24.

Thus he will have the newest OS, newest browsers, and hopefully I will have done it correctly.

Jane, is this "Masters" folder in under the regular iPhoto folder?  I have OS 10.8.5 here on this Macbook Pro and don't see it!

I had a very difficult time finding it, as I didn't even know what it was called. But the newest Mac-Life magazine had an article about this, so I hit search for Masters folder and it was there.
But Ive never seen it in either computer before. iPhoto hides its original photos.
But the magazine let us know where the original photos are and what the folder was named, otherwise I would still be confused.
Its frustrating to work on this stuff.

GN: I am using osx 10.9.5. and iPhoto 9.5.1 After seeing Jane's post I started looking for it and finally found it by using the "command f" in the finder search.  "masters" it shows up as  Applications>iPhoto library>masters. And sure enuff there are all 2800+ photos that are in the iPhoto library.

Ive got 11,000 at the moment, but saved them all. Copied that Masters folder. And have it on one of my external hard drives.
And will do the other computer tomorrow, and copy all of them and name that one Masters2, and save them all in that folder on the other ext HD which goes with that Mac.
Then lets see what I can do with LR or Photos.
