Terrible Event @ House last Monday!
« on: September 14, 2016, 05:57:54 PM »
I was alerted to the fact that, with washing and drying "in progress", I would be required to be available to perform the now very difficult 'opening' procedure!

Obviously, these duties would severely interrupt my personal time and enjoyment! So a solution was needed, and as soon as possible! Fortunately, I keep a good selection of scrap wood in the storage room! It took only a few hours to clear out enough rarely used tools and detritus to find exactly what I needed! Another hour and I had located a usable saw!

Here are some images to illustrate my genius and amazing engineering and construction skills! First the poorly "designed" plastic handle!
There are two very small 'tabs' (red arrows/circles highlighting them) that had broken! The cause of the major panic in our peaceful home.

These are images of the replacement. I can only assume there is some 24ct Gold beneath the plastic veneer of this ~$34 item! I may need to list this on our household goods insurance...

Success! And such beautiful solution! If you are interested in one of these beauties, I can make one for you! I think it would make a great stocking stuffer for your in-house 'Handy-Man'! Don't wait too late! These are hand-made, one at a time, by some elves I found in our storage room! Please use the Contact page on my website! Be sure to mention "Techsurvivors" and get a 25% discount on the regular $84.18 (plus shipping and handling) price! Sorry, sales are limited to the 48 contiguous States dues to security concerns.

Are they cheaper by the dozen? Congratulations on creating a masterpiece! I have notified the Museum of Modern Art in New York and they want to exhibit your genius.  clap.gif

This is almost exactly what my grandfather did when he found out what the appliance place wanted for the part!  This is in pre-internet history and there wasn't a lot of options!  Good work! notworthy.gif

I hope you submitted a bill for such craftsmanship, including call-out and time and a half.

here, your washer dryer would've been consigned to the dump as it was now considered irreparable.

[quoteI hope you submitted a bill for such craftsmanship, including call-out and time and a half.[/quote]Please forward the address of who I should send the bill! My wife has no idea who that might be... :laughhard: Maybe I can deduct it from my income taxes? Would that be "smart"? :dntknw:

Are all you "guys" still there? Great to hear there were no reports of injuries. Hope that means the left coast is still attached to the rest of the country! :WOW: That was a significant earth quake this morning!

What earthquake? Guess I should go read the news.

EDIT: Okay, I checked the news. Too far south for me unless it produced a tsunami, which it didn't. As far as I can tell, there were 3 and they were all in out in the ocean and didn't cause any damage. I'm guessing my kids all enjoyed the effects though. Since I don't have any panic texts, they must all be fine.
