First, I should have said: thank you for your concern and for checking on all of us. This could have been the storm to end all storms. I'm thankful it wasn't.
Well, 80 mph winds on the Oregon coast is more than enough to damage many structures... and not a few trees!
Totally agree, and the tornado in Manzanita was unexpected and not the norm. Fortunately no one was hurt. Every year we get a storm or two with 70-80mph winds; after all, gale force winds seem to be the norm on the central and northern Oregon coast.
However, the media and weather folks told us to prepare for 100-150 mph winds, 6-10 inches of rain, week long power outages, etc. My cell phone pinged
constantly with alerts, my landline rang at least once an hour with the local recorded alerts, and I eventually started to panic. Actually so did most folks around me as the stores were packed with folks buying supplies and food—which may be a good thing if they were never prepared.

In my area, the highest gust was 42mph, although there were a few areas around me with 50-60 mph winds—but these are "normal" for this time of year. My town had the most rain in my area at 4.28”; but, again, this isn't out of the norm for this time of year.
Sadly, this is the second time in around 30 days (give or take a week) that the media and weather service has hyped us all up for something that hasn't happened. My biggest fear is that the next time, folks will ignore the warnings and that's when the serious storm will hit.
And now you know why I roll my eyes and say it's was no biggy.
