How do I make them pretty????, Changing the color of folders in my iMac (El Cap

I like to keep a lot of folders on my desktop. They're all ... blue.  I'd like to change the folders to different colors.  After a Google search, I did a "challenging-for-me" thingy and changed a blue folder to a light purple folder by way of the video on this site:

Really, though, I'm not all that thrilled with having to adjust the tint etc for the "auto levels" in order to get what I want, following the directions in the above link. Making the color *yellow*, for example, escapes me...or perhaps I have little patience.


Then, I found this site where you can download a zip folder with all these different folder colors, but it said it was for Snow Leopard, although a couple of comments around the web said it would work with El Capitan, too:

Does anyone know if I can use the downloaded folder colors from ekliptikz.deviantart (listed as for Snow Leopard) easily, and use them, on my computer?


What kinds of things should I know about this before I use it, if I'm able to use it to make it pretty ?


Is there some other way to change the color of the folders on my desktop (I don't want to change any applications or utilities folder colors) that's easy?

Yes, you can use those in El Capitan; and the video is correct on how to change a folder icon.

You can easily change the folders to nearly anything you want, including pictures.

Here is a link showing how simple it is

You can also just make a new folder in the Finder, highlight it,  then Command+I to Get Info. Then click on the icon in upper area of window that opens and Command+C to copy it to the clipboard. Then open Preview and do a File/New from clipboard.

You will get a column of folder instances in a window. Just click on and play with the first one using all the annotation tools including changing color, tint, saturation, contrast, etc.  Add text if you wish but use very large fonts.  Play around til you get something you like.

Then click on top folder in the window that has been changing while you worked and do Command+C to copy to Clipboard. Then go back to the Get Info window for that untitled folder and click on the original folder at the top of the window and do Command+V.

The newly colored icon will now be in place of the original. Kinda fun to play around with them.

I can make a folder with a picture of my little dog, and put all his photos and videos in it--that will be a treasure ... and easy to locate visually, too!
