Making Old AirPort Time Capsule Usable
« on: October 30, 2018, 06:50:34 PM »
Hi All, It's been awhile since I posted anything so bear with me.

I purchased a home in August, retiring my AirPort Time Capsule and installed an Asus Mesh WiFi.

At first, I had no idea how was going to back up my MacBook Pro. Then I searched the web and found a very useful article on MacWorld. It explains clearly how to setup the AirPort so it can be connected via Ethernet cable to a computer and function as a Time Machine.
https://www.macworld.com/article/3170186/network-storage/how-to-configure-a-time-capsule-as-an-ethernet-only-storage-device.html

This might be common knowledge to some but I wanted to share is this information for anyone who could use it.

Wow! Not exactly plug-n-play but it solved the problem!

Thanks for posting! Always good to be able to extend the life of our hardware!
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

Yep, keeping this stuff going is kind of essential. Over the years, I have added RAM and replaced the hard drive in the MBP with a Solid State Drive. The other day, I visited the Genius Bar and had them run a diagnostic. All good except for the battery.

The original is tired and needs replacing. Apple said they don't repair old computers, so I went to OWC, (my favorite parts store) and ordered a new battery.

A new computer that runs the latest software would be nice but now that I'm retired, that kind of thing goes on the back burner until I can make some extra cash. I haven't run any graphics software for a few years now.

Maybe some day…
