America loves BBC show Great British Bake-Off... says BBC

A long article on the BBC News website written by (would you believe!) Vicky Baker.
The Great British Baking Show - name changed because Bake-off is trademarked in US - seems to have been a big hit because it's a feel-good show.

Anyone over there watch it? And do you agree with the sentiments expressed?
Just curious - my questions inspired by Robert Burns, whose birthday was celebrated on Friday:

I watch it religiously! I also enjoy watching the "master classes" where Mary and Paul bake the technical challenge recipes. It is a 'feel-good' show, even when the contestants get booted. :yes: It is very easy to feel the pain, frustration and fear with the contestants when they are told each new challenge... especially if you are a kitchen-challenged "microwave chef" like me! :blush-anim-cl: It's also very interesting to hear about the common ingredients such as the wide variety of flours used!! :whoosh: :doh:

BTW, some of the best "American" TV comes from the BBC! :thumbup:

Later: Doing some searching and see that Ms. Berry is no longer one of the judges! Not so concerned about the other two 'characters'/hosts, but I hope the changes don't ruin the show. At 75, I've seen enough of "changes"!  :p :wacko: :whistling:

I watch it, too, usually drooling a lot when they do the sweet stuff.  :p

I was really ticked off when they removed the show from the air last year mid season, due to one of the judge's randy activity. :nono:

Surely that wasn't Mary Berry! And Mr. Hollywood seems to still be on the current version (which I haven't yet seen). Perhaps it was one of those two lady 'hosts'? I grew quite tired of one of them trying to say "Bake!" more ways than Carter had liver pills... :rolleyes:

I feel sorry for anyone named Randy, also... :wallbash:

BBC channels in England (and probably Scotland and Ireland and many European countries). We only get them when they've already run over there or when one of the larger PBS stations helps produce the program. They are a "public broadcasting service" that used to be funded by an annual license fee. I'm not sure that is still the way funds are collected, I think that was to change a couple of years ago. I would gladly pay a dedicated fee just to avoid the (seemingly) monthly disruptions in schedules for their 'pledge drives'. I have been making monthly contributions for at least 25 years, but I still "get" to twiddle my thumbs during those drives... :wallbash: According to PBS/NPR/AMR/etc., I'm part of the less than 1%. You are welcome. :p

Well, have a BBC membership through Amazon so they might be available. Tonight I'll check Netflix and Amazon both. Amazing amount of stuff available to stream.

BTW, I really like the ovens and proofing drawers they use on Great British Bake-Off. I want. I want. I want.

BBC America is simply what they ship over hearse. Many of the shows were originally made for commercial TV (American TV), in other words, re-runs. Of course, 50% of American TV is already re-runs... I fear that the BBC will end up making commercial TV for the lowest common denominator (viewer). At least on the American version of BBC (cleverly named, "BBC America"), you can get A-Week-of-Blue-Planet...  :thumbup:

I saw a trailer and wasn't impressed. I'm rewatching the baking show and enjoying it all over again.
