Iphone 11 add song as ring tone
« on: October 26, 2019, 04:08:02 PM »
:wallbash: I bought my partner the phone. She likes a particular song so added it as a voice memo. On the mac made it into a song in format M4a. And now cannot get it into a ring tone.

I have spent about three hours on this to no avail.

I even looked at getting it on garage band on the iphone, but no idea how to add it.

Any ideas?

I really have a pet hate for Apple Music and I prefer Spotify.

Larry, did you follow the instructions here, by any chance?

https://www.tomsguide.com/us/how-to-make-ringtones-iphone,review-6526.html

I just tried it and it worked. The only bit they left out of the instructions is that you need to have your import settings on AAC - I had them on something else, so at the Convert step, I didn't have the option to save it as AAC. To fix that: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/805313

If you've gotten as far as creating a 30-second or less bit of music to use as the ringtone, you can skip directly to the bit where you rename it as an m4r and then carry on with the directions from there.

Paddy it doesn't work - Under Tom's guide I got to 8 I made the conversion -It will not allow me to add it to the Tones.

You know these new iphones are not consumer friendly.

Try Ringer.app
I downloaded the ringer app and it said it would add it to the iphone and that doesn't work either - several more hours wasted.

Strange - I did it with my own iPhone 8 to make sure it worked and it did.

Have a look here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8089136 - I didn't try to convert my new file in iTunes - I had it saved to the desktop.

More on that here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-12051

I suspect that might be the issue?

Ok...that's odd.

Have you checked this out? Scroll down to the GarageBand section - the first bit is for Windows users.
