I screwed up and messed up Safari on my iMac.

Safari will not even load TS, giving the error below:

I would like to reload Safari, but don't have the DMG for 5.1.10

Is there anyway to download Safari 5.1.10.dmg?
It is no longer on the Apple site.

Or is there a more recent Safari version for Snow Leopard?

I would think this is the perfect job for Time Machine and/or whatever bootable backup you have. :dntknw:

Thanks Paddy - I already tried that - but the page doesn't show any download button,
just a ref to the security content (see below):
'Download icon' is non-functional

Jack, have you cleared your browser caches lately? Do you have any javascript blockers installed? :dntknw: My TM backup only goes back to April of 2018 and TM doesn't like to install older software on top of new in Mojave macOS 10.14. I'd probably have to try Carbon Copy Cloner to retrieve an older version.

Shift-command-4, the standard "capture a portion of the screen" shortcut.

To get the screen:
I simply followed/clicked Paddy's link in her previous post: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1569?locale=en_CA  :dntknw:
I think that link is for Canadians! Note the "locale=en_CA" as a value in the url. However, even if you use: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1569?locale=en_US, the page looks exactly the same. But see it using the second (US) link helps, perhaps your ISP is concerned that Canada may be trying to influence something... again!  :Thinking: :doh: :wallbash:

Unfortunately, that button doesn't seem to show in your browser? What browser is that? Have you tried other browser brands (Firefox/Opera/Chrome)? :wallbash: There is a lot of javascript in the code, make sure you have enabled javascript, at least on that page and turn off any privacy extensions you might have.

Lastly, clear your browsers caches, it will continue to load a cached page until you get rid of it. I know the command is in the Develop Menu, but the shortcut option-command-T might work anyway.

I finally got the dl screen to show in firefox Mavs version.

But, guess what, the download button dl'd the security content listings instead of the dmg.  I already had that.

Bummer!

I recovered the app from my TM backup.

Still same behavior.

I guess I'm SOL.

You got the 'security' updater when you clicked the blue "Download" button?! :wallbash: :doh: :blink: Mine was called "Safari5.1.10SnowLeopardManual.dmg" (50.7 MB). :dntknw:

And if reinstalling from a fresh copy STILL doesn't work, then it's on to other things.

Change your DNS settings - that often fixes things.

• First, I used TimeMachine to recover a 1-month old safari.plist & safari.rss.plist
- Same-old

• I did a SD! clone of my Macintosh HD

• Fired up another account, and TS bombed there also, so it's not a problem with my account, but at the global level.

• Rebooted and ran the safari 5.1.10 installer Paddy pointed me to, and rebooted.
- Same-old

I tested many other sites I visit frequently, and they all loaded no-problem, such as MacInTouch, and others.
TS! is the only site that gives me a problem.

I also did many of the recommends of ADB to no avail.

Anyway, this is not critical, since I normally use firefox as my preferred browser,
and TS works fine there.

Thanks ABD and Paddy for your input and suggestions!

And thanks Paddy for the safari dl link.

I am putting this to rest for now.
