Red triangle with exclamation point on MagicPrefs logo
« on: November 24, 2019, 06:25:46 PM »
Just migrated to new Mac ( hate the fact that you have to keep charging the darn mouse and keyboard!) and periodically I notice a red triangle with an exclamation point superimposed on the MagicPrefs icon on the menubar.  I have been searching and can't find a reason.  Can anyone help?

Most likely the dev can. That is the standard 'warning' alert that something is wrong. But you will have to contact the dev or the app's site for contact info or, hopefully, a FAQ. However, the following statement suggests not much help will be available:

MagicPrefs is more than 5 years old now and is no longer maintained
Nor do I recommend downloading anything from "Softronic.com". :nono:

Mouse and keyboard seem to hold a charge quite well. Wish my iPhone needed charging as seldom as those two items. :dntknw:

It would be helpful if you included your hardware and OS in your user Profile Forum Settings->Signature here. :whistling:

Thanks.  Yes, have to update settings.  Computer is only a week old.  I wonder if it would pay to buy a second mouse to use when one runs out of juice. Once in a blue moon the mouse stops working, and there is no light on it to determine whether it "thinks" it's on. It then goes back to normal.  I should call Apple.  After all, I'm under warranty, right? As for the phone, I just bought the new 11 Pro Max and it seems to hold a charge forever.

Turn on the Bluetooth ‘Show in menu bar’. That will show the status of all Bluetooth devices connected to your iMac. I never cared for the Magic Mouse and much prefer the magic pad. It runs for several weeks on each charge. Keyboard runs even longer.

I'm betting it's because you don't use the TS menus very often. :) Here is the trick:
  • In most Themes (did you know you can have different "Themes" for TS?), there is a (TS only) list of actions (a menu). Mine looks like the first image below.
  • Click the "Profile" link
  • You should now see the options in last image.
  • Be sure to click the "Change Profile" button at the bottom of the page (scroll down, if needed, to see it)

Okay, so with no avatar there is no text.  Have to upload one.   :)

Not sure why you think that. Hopefully not because I added some red text (and a couple of underlines) to the image to explain where the text will be displayed. :dntknw: If you have any text in the "Personal Text" box, it will be displayed just below where an avatar would be.

Definitely not correct. Just choose one from the "Gallery" or don't use anything.

I think it might be easier to understand if you just visit the Profile page.

One of the fun things to do with any app or web page is to investigate any menus. It may be surprising when you can discover what you can do with an app or what might be available on a web site. It's rather like reading a (usually) non-fiction book; there are usually lots of things to discover in the table of contents, indexes, notes, sources and appendices. :coolio:

Already done, and thanks.  Yes, I realize you do not need the avatar, but added my pup anyway.
