EasyEnvelopes anyone?
« on: April 10, 2020, 02:33:19 PM »
I bought  EasyEnvelopes and can't use it. It is easy enough to create an envelope, but it appears horizontally on the screen, and my Epson printer requires that the envelope be fed vertically. Consequently, this app is of no use to me.

The Help menu is of no help, and contacting the developer has been impossible. The page keeps timing out and Safari says that it cannot open the page. I attempted to get a refund from Apple but that has been refused. Luckily, I can print envelopes created in Pages, but that's more convoluted than I want.

If anyone uses EasyEnvelopes, please advise me of a workaround if you can. Otherwise, can anyone recommend a similar app? I see some listed in App Store but I have already been burned once and don't wish to repeat the experience.

Maybe someone bought the old Ambrosia name, otherwise this developer/company has been around for a long time. Strange/sad that you can't make contact. :wallbash: I do remember the name Andrew Welch! I think I may have tried their screen capture app, Snapz. There is a thread at Reddit, it's 2 years old with no recorded solution. Plus a different name is mentioned concerning "support". Sad that foul language always seems to be a problem at that site...

The info at Wikipedia says that the Ambrosia web site was closed down in July 2019. That probably explains why Safari says their server dropped the connection. These indie devs, even when they are successful, sometimes change what they do for a real living and can even cease 'production' or, worse yet, die! :swoon:

I can only suggest you demand a more user-friendly response from Apple. Do you have Mr. Cook's email address? I think it's simply tim@apple.com or maybe timcook@...

Just noticed that the Copyright date on the app store stops at 2013... I generally question any site that doesn't keep that date up-to-date, assuming they even post the info. Certainly not encouraging when posted by a "dev". A very simple PHP script can update the year automagically on a web page.

People were reporting in 2014 and 2015 that it wasn't working (on MacUpdate) and that support was non-existent. The company itself ceased to exist in July of 2019.

The bigger question is why on earth is the App Store still selling it? I'd definitely continue to pursue this with Apple, Jon - it's not ethical to be selling software that has no support and doesn't actually work on any recent OS.

I don't know what you've done so far to try to get a refund, but there is good info in this Reddit thread. If you've tried the online approach already, I'd give them a call. 1-800-myapple

And if none of that works, there is always filing a dispute with your credit card company.

Printing envelopes can also be done from Contacts: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/contacts/adrbab40ca1d/mac

Sure, but did you notice this disclaimer?!

Don't try fooling Apple! :nono:

As for selling apps that won't run on the latest OS, if they are still being supported, the least the dev AND Apple can do is to prominently note what OS is required. :wallbash: I doubt if Apple is concerned much about that since it might encourage folks not to upgrade...

<rant>This kind of kick-it-out-the-door-and-let-the-buyer-beware attitude is just another reason I like buying direct from a dev when possible.</rant>

I thought about pursuing a refund but I have to decide, considering the nominal outlay of money, if it's worth my time. As the saying goes, it's not the principle, it's the money. (Actually, when someone says that, it's the money!)

I've found that just a few minutes on my credit card bank's website to initiate the chargeback process is the way to go. I've never been denied a disputed transaction yet.

I just filed a dispute with Discover, so we'll see if I get satisfaction that way. I feel like David taking on Goliath, but Discover may have just the slingshot I need.

Good luck!  Discover is probably more concerned about keeping you as a customer than Apple is.

I have used Discover since it started as a subsidiary of Sears (association long since broken). I have found them to be more than satisfactory. The few times that I have had to initiate a dispute, the procedure was very easy and was resolved in my favor. They immediately notify me if there are any suspicious charges and ask for confirmation (did I or didn't I?). On several occasions, they have cancelled my card because of fraudulent charges but they immediately sent a new card overnight to replace it.

One of the things that I like best is the easy of redeeming what they call "cashback". Unlike Key Bank (which holds my MasterCard), Discover doesn't play games. There are no "points" to confuse the issue; just a dollar figure that I can easily redeem in several ways for up to the full amount. I have the option of having the money deposited into my bank account, or applied as credit to my next statement, or getting credit with Amazon, or some other means.

Whenever I have phoned them, I get to speak with a real, live person who has always been attentive to me needs. In short, I'm optimistic about the outcome with Apple.

David took on Goliath and David won! Discover refunded my money and Apple automatically suspended my iTunes and App Store accounts. A phone call to Apple solved the problem. Apparently, if you cancel a charge, App Store goes "tilt". The rep told me that I should have consulted Apple first and I kindly informed her that I did, to no avail. At any rate, there was no problem reinstating me to the land of the living.

Learned in the military: Always record names, rank, times & places. Witness statements are sometimes also helpful.
