I'm moving across the country!
« on: August 22, 2020, 12:22:59 PM »
Jim seems to think we need a thread about this, but most of what is taking place I don't want to share publicly. Here's what I'll say ... I'm moving across the country. Bought a house, but haven't yet sold this one. Going from cool temps to heat. Going from a porch to a sunroom (and I've double check and it's not a lanai). ;)  :laughhard: Going from 1850+sq ft to 1393 sq. ft.  Going from a Terrace to a Drive. Going from being alone and lonely to being near family. ❤️

I'm attaching a little map that shows why I love this move. I have pictures, but they are too easy to research, so I don't want to post them. The map will have to do for now.

Obviously, you have your priorities in the right order!

Hope the move is completely stress-free!  You may be affected by occasional hurricanes, but you won't have to worry about becoming a new island in the Pacific!!! :whew:

That's really neat! Your subdivision looks very much like mine. I hope you have easy access from your back door to theirs. Happy trails!

Welcome back east Kimmer!

It will be nice to be near your kids!

Good luck in selling your current house.
Shouldn't be too hard with the current seller's market.

Best wishes to you! The last time we moved was in 1973 and we never want to to it again! (And that was just a mile down the road.)

It looks as if you could maybe climb over the corner in the back yard!  Maybe one of those steps they have for crossing fences on ranches!

I immediately thought of you when I saw this: "Don't wait until the skies are gray. Begin to think about what to do to survive right now." An 18 minute audio, could be a faster read.

Only thing we get from these storms is rain and sometimes lots of it. I mowed the lawn this morning because what's left of Marco may start arriving in a few days. The dregs of Laura will probably follow right behind. :wallbash:

gunug, we've actually talked about it, but I think I'll stick with walking around the corner. Climbing a ladder at my age isn't ideal. ;)

Jim, great article. I will be setting up a to-go kit, and my plan will be to head to the kids house and we will shelter, or flee, together. Stay safe from the 1-2 punch heading your way.

I have a horror story to share, but that's for tomorrow.

Does anyone want a 35ft kite? You'd just have to stop by my house and it's yours.  :laughhard:  Sneakers flew it a few times, but it was so heavy it took both of us to get it down to the beach. I'm working in his old room, and it's an adventure. Here's a couple of finds (from hundreds to date).

Today I finally got my financial guy to respond to me. I've been calling and emailing for 6 weeks. I reached my breaking point today and my email was ALL IN CAPS. I used words like URGENT and IMMEDIATELY. He phoned me within 5 minutes, and gave me a sob story about working remotely. He owns the company, what's the problem? Anyhow, then I learned how I could do what needs to be all on my own by logging in to a web site. Why do I need him? I'm not sure I do.   At least I'll be able to settle this issue. That's a huge praise.

That "kite" sounds more like it's made for surfing! Is it sort of ellipse looking, with lots of lines/ropes coming down to a 'harness'?

Looks like he had some good knives, you can't have too many of those. Those smaller ones all look like Bucks™. I keep them all in different places with always one in my pocket. Most of them have legs, however and will walk off at the slightest chance!

Save those quarters, you'll need them if you use any toll road.

I think those knives were Case, but I couldn't say for sure. Sneakers was a big fan of pocketknives and I've found them in almost every drawer in the house.

I'm going to spend that change (which includes some $1 coins) on my trip. :) Share the wealth. HAHA

The kite. There's a story. I'm attaching a photo. Sneakers is sitting on his beach stool (on a pole that you shove into the sand). Around 20 minutes, he was getting tired, and the wind grabbed the kite and literally pulled him onto the sand and started to pull him out to sea. I had to charge down to the beach (not easy for me), and grab him and help. HAHA

Yep! The thing is designed to catch some air and inflate the "wing" into a very efficient airfoil rather than the normal flat surface of a dime-store kite. I'm sure you've seen the larger versions pulling small surfboards and the 'pilot' along the shore. Mainly in warmer climes, of course. Like FL?! Be sure to take it with you!!  :whistling:
