I'm having some work done on my Mac mini next week, probably a HHD change. As part of my trouble-shooting process last weekend, I attempted to create a new user. Could not do it! I assumed it was simply part of my HHD/S.M.A.R.T. problem.
However, the recent TidBITS (1533) reports that the Security Update (and/or the Safari update) is causing problems when trying to create a new user. Here is a link to a report and an investigation by Randy Singer (a long time Mac expert):
Safari 14.0 + Mojave 2020-005 Security Update Causing Major Problems! This appears to be in the process of being corrected:

This is Apple’s acknowledgment of the issue.
Anyone who has not installed the updates will now be safe. This also means that we should be getting an official fix!!!
