No iCloud Drive

I can sign into iCloud drive with no problem on both Brave and Safari browsers. With or without a VPN in use. However, when I try to open iCloud Drive with the browser to add a file, I get the message shown in the screenshot. I seldom use Drive, but this has been happening for several months.
Suggestions?

Not sure which version of the OS you're using, so my view and yours may be different. Go to System Prefs->iCloud. Click the "Options..." button in the "iCloud Drive" item. Is the "Desktop & Documents Folders" checked?

BTW, you can add some text to report your Mac's info in the "Personal Text" area in the "Forum Profile" section in the "Profile" TS menu above. See the short text just below my avatar, for example.

I have OS 10.15.7 so maybe a little different route. But within the system prefs it's Internet Accounts/iCloud. From there I found the option for Desktop & Documents Folders. It was indeed unchecked. So it's now checked. However, the same problem persists.

I don't use iCloud so this is a shot in the dark: Go to System Preferences > Apple ID and press Start Using iCloud

There appears to be no such option for Start Using iCloud. From the Go menu I can see what is supposedly stored on Drive, yet still cannot access it via Brave or Safari browsers. If I were to try and add something to iCloud Drive, I get the message shown originally.
Below is what I see when I select iCloud Drive from the Go menu.

When you go directly to iCloud.com:

• How much space is available?
• Are there actually any folders or files that you have created?
• Can you download any of those files?
• Can you upload any files from your drive(s).

After checking the ability to upload a file, does it now show in iCloud via Finder?

If I go to the menu in the upper left corner of my screen I can see all the icons and select Drive. But I get the same message about there being a problem.
If I select Account Settings, I can see how much space is taken and how much is available. But not what items have been uploaded.
If I look at Files on my iPhone, I can see what files have been uploaded to iCloud. Funny part about that is, files that were saved to the desktop on my computer and not uploaded (at least not on purpose!) are showing up in Files on the phone.
Also shown is a screenshot of my iPhone, where I can access iCloud Drive and see the files.

My questions in post #5 are related to going "go directly to iCloud.com" in a web browser on your Mac, not on any iDevice. I appreciate screen shots (post #6) but I don't know where they are from except for the one from an iPhone.

Question #1 is answered: Still plenty of space.
Question #2 seems to be answered: I assume you created the "MileTracker" and "Our wed...011" folders.
Questions #3 and 4 remain unanswered when accessing iCloud from a web browser on your iMac.

As for Desktop files being in iCloud, you stated back in post #2:

Did you subsequently return that setting to UN-checked before closing System Prefs?
