Safari 14.02 bug in Big Sur
« on: December 21, 2020, 07:13:55 AM »
I have many sites bookmarked and stored in the favorites bar in Safari 14.02. Some of them have subfolders or other bookmarks, and that is where the bug lies (single bookmarks in the favorites bar are not affected). When I go to a problem bookmark and select a subfolder or bookmark, the bookmark disappears from the favorites bar. When I hover the mouse over the empty space (where the bookmark had been), it reappears.

Example: There is a bookmark labelled "News" which has several bookmarked news sites. If I access one of them, "News" disappears, leaving a space but still showing the down arrow. Hovering the mouse over the space instantly restores "News".

Restarting does not resolve the issue. Other browsers (Firefox, for example) are not affected.

I have filed a bug report with Apple.

Why are you using a unique-to-browser bookmark?! URLMPro has been available for at least a decade and is well supported. Works in all popular browsers and always has.

Perhaps you can look for all plists or extensions that may be related to Safari and move them, one at a time, to see which one might store the bookmarks. When that doesn’t work, and you get your System restored, download URLMPro and forget about having to sync various browser bookmark lists. :wallbash:

I just don't understand why everyone doesn't do things the way I do... :dntknw: :coolio: :scram:

Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

I rarely use any browser other than Safari so URMLpro is not something that I need. This bug is so minor that I can practically ignore it.

I have the identical problem with Safari 14.0 & 14.01 & 14.02 on MacBook Air (2020) with Big Sur 11.1.

I edited my original post because I had said "menu" bar when I should have said "favorites" bar. I corrected those entries in red. My face is also red:blush-anim-cl:

I just spent time chatting with Apple (and it was quite a bit of time) and the best that they could do was to suggest reinstalling Big Sur. I could try that but the workaround is so easy (taking less than half a second) that it may not be worth the time. The suggestion sounds suspiciously like a Windows idea...

FWIW, the bug seems to have been fixed in macOS 11.3 and Safari 14.1.
