Today I had my company support guy look at it, and the conclusion is that Microsoft is only looking after it's client with the latest operating systems, in other words Macs with Monterey 12.7.6 are no longer supported, as it appears.
One of the reasons i was using Microsoft Edge is that it was using a database that my team were using. The Mac that i am using I bought in 2019, and had the 2017 model with the USBs original.
