OSX Jaguar:Download problem
« on: February 24, 2003, 05:28:00 PM »
Have been running OS9.2 on a 400/G4 and recently loaded Jaguar in the fond hope that it would be superior.  Oh dear!   Have been trying to download iMovie3, which takes about 4 hours.   I have an ISDN connection (can't get Broadband in our rural area), but the ISDN card I have won't work with Jaguar, so am forced to use the internal modem.

Problem: Whilst one could tell OS9.2 not to disconnect from the web, it seems there is no way of doing this in Jaguar.   If there is, please someone tell me.   I can't sit watching the monitor for four hours to clear the little window which appears every 1/2 hpour warning of an imminent shutdown.

After two days of messing about trying to download iMovie 3 in Jaguar, I decided to restart in OS9 and do it with that, using my ISDN line which I can keep on permanently.    That worked.  No trouble dowloading the installer, BUT on double-clicking the installer icon, got the dreaded message "Can't open as application that created it cannot be found".  Had I been able to install iMovie3 in OS9, I intended to shift it to OSX, which is where I want it.

Any thoughts anybody?

In your system preference (Jag) > Network. Open one of the taps till you see a button on the bottom. Click that button and it takes you to other options where you should find where you can turn off  --- disconnect after ... ---

As far as the download.
Drag the download installer to Jag. Jag should be able to open it.

Bill:  Thanks for your speedy response.
Re Imovie 3, I did exactly what you said, and it worked fine.  Great!

Regards mainaining a connection, I opened 'Network' as you suggested, but didn't know what you meant by 'taps'.  What are taps?   Anyway, what I've done is to uncheck the boxes re 'disconnect after xx minutes' and hope that will keep the thing alive.

But what are 'taps'??

Again, thanks a lot

Bill:  Is my face red?       I make enough typos myself so should be able to recognise one!
Perhaps you'll make allowances for an old 'un of 77?   Beginning to wish I'd never heard of Jaguar.
