I'm a Peeping Tom
« on: August 15, 2003, 10:26:12 PM »
At least some woman driving down my road thinks so.

Story:
I had one of my scope finders in the shop for repairs.
It came back and I was reinstalling it on the telescope.
To really fine tune it to the scopes view you have to do this at night with very little light from anywhere ...
Having said that.
Well I decided to give it a rough tune in the daylight (until late at night-whenever on giving the finale tune) by taping a small 'X' with electrical tape to a tree some 1200 feet or so away.
Straight line-of-sight with nothing in between except one road.
Behind the tree [or trees] is nothing but more trees for a good half a mile.

Just about had the finder close in conjunction with the scope when up drives one of the local police cars.

The cop told me some woman driving by called in saying I was a brass peeping tom using a high powered telescope in broad daylight. smile.gif

Told the cop what I was doing.
He asked where my 'marker' was and I pointed where.
"Which tree?" Here take a look. "Wow! This is some finder!"
Now look through the scope. "LOOK!" What? There was a trail of ants heading up the tree. biggrin.gif

I said. Do you see any homes or buildings of any kind behind the marker.
"Course not. That's all undeveloped property for a mile fenced in by the owner."

We spent the next half hour or so yacking about the sky and scopes. smile.gif

The whole repair was a rush request on my part because of the Mars situation.
Here I'm telling Dreambird in her thread about the heat etc.
Friday/Saturday and Sunday nights will be overcast with possible thunder storms!
~~~ I'd post a smiley here on how I feel about these out-of-the-blue weather conditions ... better not cos it wouldn't be a smiley ~~~
Did you get to see Mars?  It would have been nice if that scope thing had a camera included, so we could have seen the pictures of what you saw.   whistling.gif
So, are you prepared to attach a camera to your scope so we can all see Mars? wink.gif
Thought about (((BOY HAVE I THOUGHT ON IT))) installing my digital camera but the eye piece adaptor is cracked plus a few other minor glitches.
Which means it is useless/worthless at this point.
Tried using it on the other telescope .... did every make shift job imaginable .... ain't gonna happen.
