smile.gif Good Morning All,

I need to preface my statements by stating that my pill Chemotherapy causes mental confusion. That said, I noticed that if you reply giving a specific sequence of how to do something, then I can understand you and follow directions. If you leave out a step in the process, or jump ahead, I become confused. I realize that many of you are so far advanced that you assume that you can reply and be easily understood. This is not the case with me. I ask your indulgence in this and that you help me to overcome this by making your replies as simple and easy to follow as possible. With that out of the way, here are my questions:
 
I have a Personal LaserWriter 320 with 2MB Memory

1) How do I replace the toner, and what is the level of difficulty?

2) When do I replace the drum?

3) Are there two separate pieces: cartridge and drum?

Since I received the printer with no manual or instructions, I have no point of reference. Should I assume that the almost 8,000 pages printed requires a change in the drum, as well? I have only the startup page from the printer to tell me how many pages have already been printed on this printer. Also, I have removed the item in question, but it appears to be a one piece device. I do not see any separate cartridge, and yet that is what is listed in "the Macintosh Bible" by S.Z. Aker.

I have a 320 with over 30,000 pages printed with no drum replacement and it's stilll working fine.

To replace the toner, open the door on the front. From what you said, I'm assuming you've done that. The toner is one piece. Go and buy a new one and you'll see exactly what to take out.

I have been having a real "Adventure" as I could not, try as I might, print this manual out.

In IE 5.1, I get all kinds of errors notices. It will usually print out the first 9 pages and then give me an error.

In Netscape, I get a weird kind of word running into the next word situation.

With my brain operating the way it is, it just confuses the heck out of me.

It's too bad, because I really need this manual.

I'm working with RHP to try to discern how, where and when these printing problems have occurred. I am pretty sure it is Adobe and/or me.  It's probably me.

I am happy to at least know where I can get the download-if and when I ever get the Adobe thing worked out. It is in pdf form.

Are you the same person as RobW?

Thank you so much for that information. I know that I am running really low on toner. My print started to get really light when I was printing this morning.

I will have to go to Staples or Office Max and see if they have the substitutes from HP or Canon. From what I read , I can substitute either of those for the Apple M2045G/A. I do hope that that is the case.
The book is a little dated that I retrieved that information from.

Do you use the Apple cartridge for yours or have you tried the substitutes?

RobW is a different person, although we both live in Phila, PA.

I've only used Apple toner cartridges. I usually buy at CompUSA.

Welcome to the "Adventures of MrsLop in Macland". I mistook you for RobW, who sometimes drops by to help me in my "Adventures.."
Thank you again.

I will attempt to download the necessary manual using the link that you provided. It appears to be the same as the one kelly had suggested earlier.

I have no problem printing web pages or printing anything else; but the pdf files are very problematic.
I am not sure why.

I don't hold much hope for doing this download thing. I don't understand all the functions on the menus and functions and what they mean or what they do- yet.
Adobe is giving me a real problem, but I will try.



I clicked on a few of the links you supplied. Three of them charged about the same as Staples, where we have ordered from before. The databazaar prices were about $ 8.00-$10.00 less and had free delivery through FedEx.
I really need the cartridge right now, so I had my husband order it from  Staples.

I do a lot of printing of instructions because my short term memory is so bad, Chemotherapy does that to me. It makes it so much easier for me to have them available if there are important instructions with many steps.

Since I have only had the Mac a short time, I have a lot to learn and I am equally new at using a computer.

I am very grateful to you for taking the time to share your knowledge with me.

But can't you just Read those .PDF Files?

You can enlarge them quite a bit.

A good way to get a quick answer. smile.gif
