If you've never heard it, go to the iTunes mesic store, and get 'Albert's Shuffle' by Mike Bloomfield.  IMHO, he should be at least in the top 10.

Guys, you gotta consider the source...Rolling Stone Magazine? The rag began its downhill slide when it moved to New York years ago.

Jerry Garcia isn't in the Top Twenty but Kurt Cobain is?  Give Me A Break!

These lists aren't worth the paper they are printed on...

Speaking of Mike Bloomfield, I just purchased the remastered CD of "Super Session."  "Albert's Shuffle" is the first cut on the CD.  I'm with Greg on this one.

BTW, I saw Buddy Guy last night.

 WOW.gif

40+ years playing the blues and he is still excited to play before an audience.  During one part of the show he played in the style of Muddy Waters, Son House, Albert King, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix, to name a few.  He also played a way too short acoustic set and his band is first-rate.  The other guitar player (sorry, I forget his name...) could front just about any band out there.

Both Hendrix and Clapton copped licks from Buddy Way Back When.  I wonder where Buddy is on the list?

Best show I have seen in years.  Joe Bob says Don't Miss Buddy Guy if he shows up in your neck of the woods.

IAWM too B)  Best of lists are like that. They leave out a lot of people.

......The late Michael Hedges, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Robie Robertson, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaugun, Doc Watson.........there's a lot of them.

Maybe put them in catagories or something. wacko.gif

Here's my vote for "Greatest Guitarist."

http://www.classicalguitar.net/artists/segovia/

Nobody said it had to be limited to rock or country.
I'm not a complete idiot -- a few parts are missing!

Since we are on the topic of guitar players, the current VH1 show about the making of Warren Zevon's "The Wind" features a stunning guitar solo by Bruce Springsteen.  Bruce is shown playing in this small room with Warren and others sitting around, and he just blows them all away.  Afterwards Bruce is just kind of "Aw shucks, thanks guys..." in response to their praise.  It is a Real Moment.

Speaking of Real Moments, my wife reminded me that during Buddy's concert last night he walked among the audience while singing and playing, pausing in the wheelchair section to let a man who was profoundly disabled (probably cereberal palsy, according to my physical therapist mate...) strum his guitar while Buddy fretted notes.

The look on that fellow's face was pure ecstasy, worth the price of admission, no doubt about it.  Later on when the joint was jumping I saw the same fellow "dancing" with his care-giver.  I'll bet that he (and we) will never forget Buddy reaching out to him, a genuine gesture of connection and affection between artist and fan.

Pretty generally vilified.

So don't think you're the only one to disagree. smile.gif

The guy who can play quietly to a stadium full of ears has my vote. One Guitar, alone, or maybe with a wind instrument like Martin Barre and Ian Anderson, no vocals no light show just sound between the guitar and audience would be measured. I suspect under this test the list would look quite different.

One of the best locals gone global I’ve ever seen plays for Mary Chapin Carpenter. Back when he was home he had three bands at the same time, Rock, Country, and Classical, the Kid (back then) was phenomenal.

Duke Levine

I’m not sure who judges the lists but they’re far from accurate in my opinion if one includes guitarists like Greg Carmichael of Acoustic  Alchemy or Russ Freeman of The Rippingtons. My guess is that it list is restricted to Rock Stars, (but it doesn’t say that).  nono.gif
