Finally found the info I remembered but needed proof.
In 1969-1970 I worked freelance for a furniture/electronics design firm doing illustrations for boards that were used by salesmen for prospective customers.
One of the companies I did drawings for was the McIntosh company which produced audio equipment. They were thinking of starting a line of home entertainment console centers and I made 24 scale drawings for their salesmen. I don't believe the items were ever made or sold on the market. I'm still researching that part. But I made enough money from that assignment to buy my first car.
Anyway, I did come up with this from a history of the McIntosh company:

QUOTE
McIntosh enters into a license agreement with the Apple Computer Company. The agreement is for 10 years and allows Apple Computer to use the Macintosh name in connection with computer production. There is a fee paid by Apple at the beginning of the agreement. Although the spelling is not the same, it sounds the same when it was spoken.
The following statement appears on the label in the back of the Macintosh Plus 1Mb computer.
Apple and the Apple logo are registered trademarks of Apple Computer, Inc. Macintosh is a trademark of McIntosh Laboratory, Inc. and is being used with express permission of its owner.

this page.I found it quite odd that I worked for McIntosh long before ever seeing or using a Mac.
