What an awesome little program to create a bootable emergency CD for OS X. Works like a charm.

BUT, why does it take so long to boot from a CD? Is there a better way to do it that would make boot up faster?

My solution was to take an old 20GB hardrive i had lying around and put it into a firewire enclosure. Then, using Carbon Copy Cloner I created a backup system on that drive. You could also install any disk utilities and what ever else on that disk. I boot it using the option + power or restart and then choose the firewire drive's system. I can also update the system when needed...something not possible with burned CD's. The only drawback is...that it's not very portable.

These days you could buy a 20G portable HD that's not much bigger than an iPod needing a diet to set up a boot disk.

That's true, I like some of the stuff that's coming out these days, I think you can even boot off of an iPod itself...and the prices are getting better, as you say. I'll keep my eye out in the next little while, I'd like to match something up with my 12" PB.

I had that drive just sitting around doing nothing and it was a perfectly good drive, the enclosure cost me $120 CDN. I think I did okay.

You can't boot from an iPod because its disk format is actually PC based. Those FW enclosures now go for as little $50 bucks. Times are sure a changin.

I wish I could boot from a firewire drive, sounds like the best bet, but since I am still using a beige G3 and a hopped up B&W G4. They are not allowed to boot from firewire devices. Thanks though for the suggestion.

I not only booted from my iPod some months back, I also posted at TS with the iPod having an OS 9 system on it. An old snapshot.
Do a search. The thread should be still around.

Bill: I do remembering reading that somwhere. I think it was by David Pogue or maybe it was Chris Breem, but I'm fuzzy on the recalling exact details. I'll research it and get to your post.
